This writer allows users to watch standard and 3D Blu-ray Disc titles, author high-definition Blu-ray Disc content while also delivering the ability for high-capacity data storage with the included CyberLink software. In addition to the new and faster USB 3.0 connectivity, the BDR-XD05 also adds support for Windows 8 and the latest Mac OS.
XD-05 Black Includes CyberLink Media Suite 10 with Playback, Burning and Authoring Software (XD05W White does not include soltware) :
- Cyberlink PowerDVD 10
- Power2Go 7
- PowerDirector 10
The BDR-XD05 is one of the world's smallest and lightest BD/DVD/CD portable burners supporting BDXL. The ultra-compact clamshell type drive can read and write to all BDXL discs including BD-R triple-layer 100GB media, BD-R quad-layer 128GB media, and BD-RE triple layer 100GB media, as well as conventional Blu-ray discs (single-layer 25GB media and dual-layer 50GB media). The portable device, measuring only 5.2" (W) X 0.55" (H) X 5.2" (D) and weighing a mere 8.46 ounces, also has the ability to be powered directly via USB 3/2.
The BDR-XD05 includes CyberLink software, enabling users to watch standard Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D titles, and author high-definition Blu-ray Disc content or standard-definition DVD content. With BDXL support, the user can store valuable personal files on a secure and removable 128GB disc. And since the drive is portable and USB bus powered, all of this can be done virtually anywhere.
The BDR-XD05 can write up to 6x on BD-R and BD-R dual-layer (DL) media. One BD-R DL disc can hold the same amount of data as 10 DVDs (single-layer). The drive can write up to 4x on BD-R triple-layer (TL). The drive is also backward compatible to read and write to most DVD and CD recordable media. Click on the "Specifications" tab to see all supported media formats and the read and write/burn speeds achievable for each format.
The BDR-XD05 also has unique features such as PowerRead, Auto Quiet mode, and PureRead2+. PowerRead can provide smoother movie playback when a disc has fingerprints or minor surface scratches. Auto Quiet mode intelligently adjusts the disc rotation speed to reduce noise (useful while watching movies or listening to music), and PureRead automatically adjusts the drive parameters to minimize sound glitches during music playback. Auto Quiet mode and PureRead can be configured as well as enabled and disabled with the Pioneer BDR-XD05 Drive Utility. The utility is provided on the CyberLink software disc, but is not automatically installed with the CyberLink software.
The drive supports the BDXL format. BDXL supports 128 GB quad layer and 100 GB triple layer Blu-ray media. The BDR-XD04 can read BDROM discs, read/write to single, dual, triple, & quad layer BD-R discs, and is backward compatible to read and write to DVD and CD formats. The BDR-XD04 drive is USB bus powered so no AC adapter is necessary.
Auto quiet operation: the drive monitors how it is being used and will adjust its disc rotation speed automatically, High speed for data transfer, and low speed for audio and movie playback.
Pure read: allows for accurate recreation of audio on an audio cd by automatically adjusting the drive parameters to minimize sound discrepancy (audio glitches).

|Watch 3D movies
The BDR-XD04 is 3D compatible and comes bundled with 3D playback software. All you need for your 3D experience is a 3D display system3.

An eco-friendly drive
|Smooth movie playback
Scratches, fingerprints and other abnormalities on the surface of a disc can sometimes cause Blu-ray and DVD movie playback to stop. When a PowerRead enabled drive is not able to read through obstructed areas of a disc, it will attempt to quickly move forward to the next available data point, resulting in smoother Blu-ray and DVD movie playback4.
|A smarter drive
Pioneer drives with Auto Quiet mode, monitor how they are being used and will adjust their speed automatically ? high speed for data transfer, and low speed for music or movie playback.
|A better music experience
Scratches and fingerprints on your CDs can cause them to skip. A drive normally makes a calculated guess at the unreadable data and attempts to correct this to match the original music. However this is not 100% accurate. PureRead, when enabled, makes the drive reread the obscured data to extract the original music as accurately as possible.

The Videoguys technicians just returned from the 2014 CES show in Vegas and had a great meeting with the folks at Pioneer up at their suite. Over the past year the Pioneer product line-up has grown and evolved. Now, in addition to internal Blu-ray drives, Pioneer also offers a complete line-up of external drives with different features and form factors.
While some of these drives ship with Cyberlink software, we don't recommend it for anything more than basic burning. If you are looking for a stand-alone Blu-ray Disc burning and authoring tool, we recommend Roxio Creator NXT (for Windows) and Roxio Toast (for Mac).
If you are looking for Blu-ray Disc authoring software to make movies that you can play on any Blu-ray Disc player; and a low cost, easy to use but powerful PC based video editing solution; we recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum.
But, if your goal is to author professional quality, high-definition Blu-ray Disc movies, we recommend using the software integrated or bundled with our professional video editing products like:
Introducing the Next Generation Pioneer External Blu-ray Disc Burners
I am excited to introduce Pioneer?s new line-up of external burners. I've become a big fan of external Blu-ray burners. Like most of us today, I have many computers at my disposal: home & office, PCs & Macs, desktops & laptops; so the external options give me the flexibility to move the burner to the machine where I need it. This saves me a lot of money since I do not need a burner for every computer. It also allows me to invest in the best optical drive that I can even use on machines like my Mac Book Air which doesn't have a built-in drive at all. The Pioneer drives all support Blu-ray, DVDs & CDs so I can use it as the only optical drive with every machine I own and/or use.
