Media Composer Support for New HP Z840 Workstations

Avid is pleased to announce support for the new HP Z840 workstation for use with the Media Composer [ Software family of products including the Symphony and NewsCutter Options. These new machines are qualified for use with Media Composer [ Software versions 7.0.4.1 and 8.2 as well as NewsCutter 11.0.4.1.

Avid has qualified specific configurations for these machines including:

Processor support:

  • Dual Intel? 8-Core Xeon? Processors
    E5-2630v3 @ 2.4GHz 20MB cache / 1866MHz memory
    E5-2640v3 @ 2.6GHz 20MB cache / 1866MHz memory
    E5-2667v3 @ 3.2GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory

  • Dual Intel? 10-Core Xeon? Processors
    E5-2650v3 @ 2.3GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory
    E5-2660v3 @ 2.6GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory
    E5-2687v3 @ 3.1GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory

  • Dual Intel? 12-Core Xeon? Processors
    E5-2670v3 @ 2.3GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory
    E5-2680v3 @ 2.5GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory
    E5-2690v3 @ 2.6GHz 20MB cache / 2133MHz memory

Supported Graphics cards:

  • NVIDIA K4200 4GB PCI-e video board

  • NVIDIA K5200 8GB PCI-e video board

Note: The required graphics drivers for these cards were not included in the 7.0.4.1 or 11.0.4.1 releases. Customers will need to download these and a updated GPU text file from the following locations:

System Disk Drive:

  • 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 7200RPM (recommended)

  • HP offers higher performing solid-state and SAS boot drive options which are acceptable options

  • Recommend an HP qualified drive be selected

Memory configuration:

  • 32GB (8 x 4GB) DDR4 2133Mhz ECC Memory

  • Optional: 64GB (8 x 8GB or 16 x 4GB) DDR4 2133 ECC

  • 8 or 16 DIMMs required

Qualified Operating Systems:

  • Microsoft? Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition with Service Pack 1

  • Microsoft? Windows 8.1 Professional / Enterprise 64-bit Edition

Important: Specific BIOS settings are required for Media Composer to run properly on these workstations:

  • Verify CPU Processors are set to Hyper-Threading- Enabled

  • Set Memory NUMA ? Disable
