Today’s webinar is going to be a quick overview about what we saw and liked at the NAB Show. My goal is to cover a lot of the items that we saw during our week at NAB in just 10 minutes so we’re going to move fast!
I will spend some time though talking about:
- New products from Matrox, NewTek, PTZOptics, AJA, Atomos, FireFly Cinema, Small HD, Epiphan and Cerevo
- Then, we will be releasing additional videos highlighting new technology including:
- NewTek NDI with NDI capabilities from Adobe, Deltacast, AJA, Magewell and more
- Shared Storage solutions from Avid, G-Technology and ProMAX
- and VR Virtual Reality with new products from 360Heros, Teradek and Mettle

Let’s start with some great new products
Matrox expands Monarch Family with a special version for education and designed specifically for delivering presentations, lectures and training by allowing you to display both your speaker and the computer screen together at the same time.
You can configure the speaker to be in a corner of the screen or side by side with the presentation. You can center crop the speaker to give more screen real estate to the presentation.
Mix cameras and presentation materials from SDI and /or HDMI with Frame sync to lock in the video, audio and presentation.
$2,495 – Will be released in June 2016 but is available for pre-order now
Building on the success of the original TalkShow, the VS-4000 enables up to 4 concurrent remote guests for your productions leveraging Microsoft’s Skype TX technology.
Easily set up a multi-operator production workflow, with separate interfaces for call and production management. Skype TX Control software can be operated from the TalkShow VS 4000 system or installed on another machine as a standalone call control center, allowing the producer to manage calls and talent, while a production operator handles video and audio.
Built-in NewTek NDI technology allows routing of Skype video calls to any compatible NDI receiving device while enabling selection of any NDI video source for return to caller over the network.
$7,995 MSRP means it costs around $2K per channel, now that’s a value.

Perfect Track uses facial recognition technology the allow PTZ Optics cameras to automatically follow your talent. I tried it on the show floor and it worked great, even with people walking past me through the shot.
- It provides HD-SDI output to TriCaster, Wirecast and other pro systems as well as USB 3.0 output for web conferencing.
- Perfect Track is a dedicated mini-computer that comes bundles with your choice of 4 different PTZ Optics cameras for a Target price of $5,495.
- If you are an existing PTZOptics camera owner you will be able to add Perfect Track as an with upgrade for around $4,000.
Available this quarter.
AJA Helo is AJA’s new H.264 streaming and recording stand-alone appliance. HELO brings both SDI and HDMI I/O into a single appliance with the ability to simultaneously stream out to your Content Delivery Network (CDN) as well as encode and record beautiful H.264 files to either SD cards, USB storage or network based storage simultaneously.
Helo is coming soon and will sell for $1295
AJA U-Tap USB3 capture devices. They are offering two flavors, SDI or HDMI at the same great price of $345.
U-TAP is smaller than a smartphone, and is incredibly useful in the field, on set or at a studio where USB connectivity provides a quick and easy way to obtain SDI or HDMI sources for capture, without the need to install additional software drivers. Small enough to carry anywhere with you, its bus powered USB connectivity ensures you will never be looking for a power source.
U-Tap is expected to start shipping by the end of May.
7”, 10-bit HDR 1500nit Field Monitor with 4K/HD recording
Ninja Flame overcomes the display challenges of shooting Log, displaying the full brightness range on a field monitor for the first time, with true-to-life vibrant colors. It has a 7” 10-bit 1500nit panel with the AtomHDR engine and HDMI connections to record and playback video to 4K/HD 10-bit ProRes/DNxHR.
Shogun adds SDI I/O, balanced audio and phantom power. The Shogun Flame has professional audio to match professional video. Monitor up to 8ch of embedded HDMI audio, up to 12ch of SDI audio or use the included XLR breakout cable to connect with external microphones for balanced analogue audio with 48V phantom power.

Atomos invented the all-in-one monitor recorder category and now redefine it with the Shogun Inferno. It is the combination of the most advanced monitor technologies – 1500nit/10bit/HDR, the latest recording capability – 4Kp60 over Quad-SDI, along with playback & editing functionality that encourages on set collaboration. Shogun Inferno makes mastering a high resolution, high frame rate, high dynamic range workflow available to all filmmakers.

Another new product line that we added to our catalog is Firefly Cinema’s color grading tools. They have a few great products. All of which are available now through July at and intro price of 50% off your first year’s subscription
The product I’m most excited about is FireDay. FireDay is a professional digital dailies management and color grading tool with live previews, audio sync, backup, versioning and rendering for DPs and DITs

SmallHD isn’t so small anymore. At the NAB show they we’re showing 17 and 32 inch HDR production monitors.
These things are built like a tank, we’re talking military grade here. They’re taking ruggedness to the next level. These puppies are able to withstand all kinds of punishment.
They were showing them being run over by trucks, set on fire and even shot a bullet at one. They had the actual unit that absorbed the gunshot running flawlessly on the show floor. Very cool!

Expected this summer
One of my favorite things to do at NAB is t visit the HP Secret Suite, the worst kept secret at NAB. In the Suite we get a walk through of all the latest Z Workstations & Laptops as well as a cool look at what we’ll be selling a year or two down the road.
