Q. What are the differences between Avid Artist | DNxIV and the similar-looking AJA Io 4K product?
A. Avid has the exclusive ability to offer a microphone input on the front of the Artist | DNxIV. This input - a 16-bit, balanced XLR with phantom power and optional gain - is perfect for recording voice overs or narration directly to the Timeline using Audio Punch-in. The Artist I/O Family of products - the Artist | DNxIO, DNxIQ and DNxIV - are the only I/O devices sold and supported by Avid and backed by Avid's world class Customer Care organization.
Q: Does Avid Artist | DNxIV support surround sound audio output?
A: The optional DB-25 breakout cable (sold separately) provides up to 8 channels of 24-bit balanced analog audio through 8 XLRs. Surround 5.1 and 7.1 audio monitoring are also supported through SDI and HDMI embedded audio signals.
Q: How does Avid Artist | DNxIV connect to a host computer?
A: DNxIV connects to a host computer via a Thunderbolt 3 connection. Host systems with Thunderbolt 2 connections can connect to a DNxIV via a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter (sold separately.)
Q: Will DNxIV ship with a specific host connection cable type?
A: No, the Thunderbolt 3 cable needs to be ordered separately. Avid offers a 2 meter powered cable.
Q. Does DNxIV support audio punch in?
A: Yes, Audio Punch-in is supported on Artist | DNxIV.
Q. Does DNxIV support Video Satellite?
A. DNxIV may be qualified for Video Satellite in a future update.
Q. Does DNxIV work with Pro Tools?
A. DNxIV may be qualified for Pro Tools in a future update.
Q. Does DNxIV support simultaneous capture of high res and proxy?
A. DNxIV will support a single stream of ingest- there are no current plans to support simultaneous proxy generation.
Q: Can DNxIV be used with older versions of Media Composer software?
A: DNxIV is supported with Media Composer v8.10 and higher (available in late 2017.) Previous versions of software have not been tested or qualified. There have been several changes in Media Composer 8.10 (and higher) to support the new hardware as well as the drivers and firmware required to use it. Media Composer v 8.10 (and higher) is available to Media Composer customers with an active upgrade & support plan or an active subscription.
Q: Does DNxIV support Closed Captioning and Ancillary data?
A: Yes, playback and capture of Ancillary Data including Closed Captioning ) are supported.
