Jim,

Thank you for your commitment to superior customer service.  I placed a post on the MC forum at Avid.com regarding your excellent service; the way you have handled this matter is just one more reason why I will use Videoguys for all of my video needs.  I will also tell anyone and everyone that the service and customer care received from Videoguys is second to none.

Dan and Gary,

Thank you so much for the help you gave us. This project has been a total success and you both played a large part in that. We love the TriCaster and the TriCaster VM and appreciate your great customer service.

Wow and Wow again . . . .

You folks have to be the best company I have every dealt with in my 27 years in the video business.  I was not expecting you to send anything, but simply to point me in a good direction.  You make my video life so wonderful and every call or email response to and from your operation always leaves me with a happy smile.

Regards,
Chuck (10/25/06)

Hi Gary,

Just wanted to let you know how great value your DIY pages have been to me. Besides my lovely Liquid I have Vegas too that I wanted to try out. I installed it on 2 different of my machines with genuine Intel boards (925X and 925EX chipset) and it did not work properly (a culprit somewhere in the playback)….

Then I build a DIY4 with slight changes, and it seems to run like a charm… ;-)

Thanks for all you and your guys do to this video-community!!

And hey, when will we se a www.videoguys.co.uk   ;-)

Have a nice day.

Ulf (9/22/06)

I just wanted you guys to know that I appreciate all the work that you do to keep us up to date. It takes a tremendous effort to keep on top of things these days with our little time to focus on "the new".  I always get emails about sales or new items, your email campaign really works for me and I learn a lot along the way.

You guys really put efforts together to bring a real full solution out to your customers and vendors to help them move along with newer technologies.

I have purchased my original Adobe Video Standard Bundle from you guys and I even went there to pick it up out of direr need. I don’t know if others have thanked you for all the effort you put out for us, I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do.

I am going to save up to order the upgrade from my now Video Standard 1.5 bundle to the newest and latest Adobe Professional Bundle.

Thanks again for keeping up the great stuff you do.
Walter (5/5/06)

Hey Guys...

Love your website as I have been wanting to do some Video Editing for a long time. My problem (question) is there anywhere on your site where you give COMPLETE model numbers of the parts you used? I try doing a search for the models (as you have them listed) and I come up with too many variables of the same product (I.E. the Kingston Memory...is it 533MHz or 667MHz)? I just want to buy the correct equipment so I don't have problems down the line.

Thanks!!!!

Jim (5/12/06)

Thank you Gary. Your blog is outstanding by the way. The whole business, connecting product to the blog, and being a store is a great thing. I bought my Avid Xpress Pro, and Mojo from you guys by the way. Talk about the outstanding service and low prices all the time.

I can't thank you enough.

Alex (4/13/05)

Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns. That all makes perfect sense. I look forward to the DIY4 dual core, and am happy to wait on 64 bit. After all, being able to see the future vs.. making the future happen now are two very different things. I will build as smart as I can for now, and watch my equipment quickly become obsolete, which is the way of the world with computers. 5 year depreciation cycles? Not with the gear we use today...

Take care,
Jeff (1/12/06)

You guys are awesome! I ordered yesterday, and received my package today!

I'll be sure to tell my colleagues in the business about you!
Thanks again!
Mark (9/23/05)

Hi Gary-
I just wanted to let you know that I built your DIY III dual Xeon workstation for use with Avid Xpress Pro and Mojo, and it's working perfectly. I had never built a computer from scratch before, so spending over $3K on a bunch of parts was kind of scary. I would have never attempted this if it hadn't been for your informative "do it yourself" articles. It is sure great that you go beyond sales to provide this valuable service.
Thanks
Ken (8/23/05)

Hi guys...
Just want to let you know that your site is the best Avid resource I found on the internet so far. Great job!!!! I work as a productspecialist at the danish Pinnacle ditributor nd have started to look at the Avid products as well after the merger.

It is a shame that it is so difficult for me in Denmark to buy from you guys (have to pay freight and 25% tax on top) else you would have had one customer more (and many other from Denmark I'm sure).
Keep up the good work, Gary and gang - you du a great job.
Kind regards
Ulf (8/19/05)

Hey Kim,
Let Barbara know that the package arrived in great shape and right on time. I installed it and guess what? Yep, it worked! I was so happy you just can't imagine! So, "Thanks, a bunch!" to the two of you, and I sure do appreciate the help, cooperation, assistance, common courtesy, and just plain old hospitality! Just to let you know, I'm a subscriber to "Videomaker" magazine, and I'm going to go to their web site and put in a really good word for you guys and your company. I appreciate your help a lot!
Thanks
Dean (8/19/05)

PS: I'll be doing business with you guys again, I'm sure! Thanks again for the quick response to my questions. Videoguys is a great resource for independent editors such as myself.
Gary, you are, flat out, THE BOMB....I am planning to eventually build the DIY3 and I dont even care if it is 100 per cent current by the time I get around to it because it will still be one helluva system. I plan to migrate a few of my other drives onto the system so of course I will be researching just how many drives will max it out but other than that I think you guys just designed my dream system.
Thanks a million!
Jeff H ((8/16/05)
Hello Dan,
I write to you because i received my Avid Xpress Studio Essentials HD (academic) today, and I wanted to let you know that I am very pleased. Of course with the product – I knew it’s a good software before hand, but especially with the kind and fast service I have received from you and the company you represent. Thank you very much for making this a nice experience. And I’m very impressed at how fast it was shipped. If the company has customer referral I shall gladly put in some good words.
Kindly,
André (8/10/05)

I've never seen such a comprehensive site with everything VIDEO!  Much better than anyone else has to offer.
There is so much information, yet I never find myself lost because of all the links back to the main page or previous indices.
The information is awesome.  I spent a lot of time at Adobe, ATI, Matrox sites, plus other so-called "reviewer" sites and found them all to be crap  for the information I needed.  I found everything and more at Video Guys.
You truly are the masters.
thanks for this

Bob - Calgary, Canada (5/25/05)

Hello All You Videoguys,
I want to thank you for all the help I've received at your WebSite! I've built my own computer geared toward video editing with the help of the Forums and the DIY examples. I've learned a great deal and I no longer fear the word, "BIOS" I ordered my Matrox RT.X100 Extreme Pro Suite yesterday morning from your sales dept. The gentleman I spoke with was very kind and ready to help! I know I'm scratching the surface but your informative Web Site is vast with knowledge! I'm a 56 year old retired steel mill worker that took a chance at something new! With your help and the input of many people that have posted at the Forums it's been a success! I'll keep coming back!

bill (3/25/05)Take care,

I would like to congradulate and thank you for your new Video Event Web Pages. I found several items that I really must before my next wedding. The idea of collecting together the post popular items wanted/needed by wedding and event videographers is tremendous. I'm sure its going to bring you new business. There was so much that I wanted, I had to tell my self to cool down. I will probably start with some of the background or titling packages to spruce up my weddings. I have been looking for this type product for some time. I've noticed these backgrounds and title packages in my competitors videos and wondered where they came from. Now I know.

I'm leaving town for a few days, but when I get back I will be ordering some things.
I'm also very excited about the new firestore, but that is a pretty big expense when we do two-camera shoots.
By the way, I use the MultiCam camera synchronizing product that you sell and it is fantastic.

Thanks again for the Event/Wedding pages.
Ken (3/10/05)

Man, great work!
and on time and defintiely appreciated.
I sense that you guys care about me and how efficeintly / whether I fulfill my dreams as a producer and film maker, it feels like a priority over whether I buy from you personally. by being that forthcoming and providing the right range of solutions with ease and  care, I would be a fool not to purchase something from you.

the way you guys write about the specials, and the way you work the bugs out with your dream solutions and the big blue projects, etc, will save me time and frustration.

And i just wanted you to know, it's companies that continue to provide such a resource, that gain my loyal purchases.
So,  if I get this next project,  I know I can't wait to try some of these options.
toe knee (2/4/05)Jeff

I am so grateful that I found your web site!  I received Pinnacle Studio Plus 9 for Christmas, SONY DVD Burner, and a scanner.  I was thrilled.  However, my work computer just cannot handle the installation and running of Pinnacle.  (I could not even get Pinnacle up and running.  I spent weeks reading on the internet trying to figure out the problem.)  I quickly abandoned the concept of using my work computer because I do not want to harm it in any way.  So, I am beginning the process of looking for a new home computer that can handle this budding hobby of mine.  I found “The Desk Top Video Handbook on Line” and your “System Recommendations for DTV.”  Wow, I added you to my favorites today.  What a great web site!  Thanks.

Landya (1/26/05)

A short note to compliment "Barbara" in customer support. On Wednesday before the Thanksgiving holiday--she was able to re-route a UPS next day shipment from my office to home--this was done about 4:00pm EST. The package arrived Fri am and I was able to work with the product over the weekend as planned via next day shipping chgs--in addition--she is hounding UPS to refund some of the extra charges since there was a one day delay--a credit for me! She essentially salvaged a UPS foul up and made my weekend.
Great customer support and follow up!
Larry (11/30/04)
Thanks for your frequent newz letters.
I find them invaluable.
As a filmmaker I consistently bounce from film to "the film look"; And as my next project is mental; I am sure it will need both. Keep it comin'!
I am so greatful for your service updates and upgrades.
James (11/10/04)
Finally I got the package and finished my first project with them.
Thanks a lot for your service and support. Say thanks to Gary, please.
If I can review in some place about your store, just let me know, I only have to say good things.
Thanks.

Tim From the Chicago Blues show
All the stuff you sent me works so good. The DVD is going to be a smash.
Thank you for everthing !!!!!!!
Tim (08/18/04)
Good morning!
I just wanted to thank you for the neat guide you guys put together for building your own computer ("The VideoGuys Challenge - DIY")
Other guides I've seen, such as Sharky's, are biased toward the gamer. I'm looking to build a less specialized machine that can do some basic analog video to DVD stuff, and your guide was a wonderful tool to see how one would tweak the component choices.
I haven't taken the plunge yet. There are some things that I still don't have a grip on, mostly software related, such as how to tell XP that you're using SATA instead of PATA (mentioned in the latest MaxPC but not detailed clearly enuf for me) but articles such as yours are supremely helpful in bolstering my confidence.
Thanks again, when I do get around to building a machine I'll try to repay you for your help by buying some stuff from you.
Bill (07/13/04)

A quick 'congrat's' on your informative and attention getting eletter - I bet its a real favorite!
Regards
Bruce (06/25/04)

WOW!!!
You don't let the grass grow under your feet! I just received a tracking notification on my shipment.
Thank you for all the answers, information, and support you've provided me in my search for the "right" tutorial to learn Liquid Edition. You are as good as your word, and I appreciate your friendly, helpful assistance.
Best,
Dave (06/09/04)

I just needed to drop you a quick note of thanks, I talked with Dan on the phone the other day and in a few seconds he answered my question about why I was having problems capturing my video (ATI All In Wonder). I've been trying to get strait information for awhile but I'm brand new at this and have got more frustration than answers. I was real impressed with the no BS Dan handled my questions with. I'll be ordering some software from you folks very shortly and I will spread your name as much as I can here in Colorado.
Keep up the great work.
Joe (05/14/04)

Clear, informative, riveting --
I have just given your site a cursory reading -- it is dense with worthwhile content. It is cutting edge, research oriented, and practical, all at the same time. Grade A+ writing.
Outstanding, excellent, extraordinary!
Thank you.
David (03/02/04)

Thank you and your company. Today many businesses seem to have the attitude that all that counts is getting the customers money and then screw em. You guys have been the ONLY helpful source I've had.Pinnxcale support is useless. They are rude and arrogant, that is when you can get through to them. You on the other hand have been patient and understanding. Which kept me from giving up. I count myself truly lucky that I ordered from the Electronic Mailbox, for it was just luck I chose your ad out of all the other ones in the magazine and I'm sure glad I did. Rest assured your attitude will pay off. I will reccommend you on the Pinnacle webboards. And when my next purchase rolls around,(I've got my eye on SonicFire) I will be ordering from my FRIENDS at the Electronic Mailbox.
I hope you're feeling better, Gary. All the best to you and yours.
Bob (03/01/04)

I must say I was very impressed that not only did you have the product I wanted in-stock and at an extrememly competitive price, but my interaction with your company; from the intial email from Jon confirming product was in stock (although it was only a one word reply, he DID answer my question! lol) , to my phone order with Dan, to your reply to me this morning, has re-instilled my faith in mail-order re-sellers.
It might appear as if "all in a day's work" to you, but to me, who has been a very frustrated consumer that has tried to deal with several of your competitors this week and could NOT get a straight answer on anything, it goes a long way! Too bad you don't sell Canon GL-2 Camcorders cause I need to buy one of those two and that has been even TWICE as frustrating trying to find a reputable reseller with competitive prices. Thank you again and I will certainly do business with you VideoGuys again soon.
William (03/01/04)

I just placed my first order with you this past weekend for the Adobe Video Collection. Your web site explained you had it in stock, you were out on vacation until Monday, and that you would ship an orders placed over the holiday weekend on Monday.
I had recently heard stories of some sites shipping OEM versions of products with no official license, but I decided to give your company a try. I received a prompt email reply on Monday indicating my order had been shipped, followed by a UPS tracking number. And on Tuesday I received the package! Better yet, it is the official sealed Adobe box, which you sold at a discount price. I am very happy with your company, and plan to do all my future digital video shopping through you.
Thank you very much,
Kat (12/31/03)

Greetings from Florida,
I've been meaning to write this for some time but put it off. However after just getting some sales help from Mitch I realize I should do it now. I have been buying things on the net for a few years and have had many unpleasant experiences buying hardware and software products. But I must say that I wish everyone could discover the Video guys like I did. I have nothing but good to say about the Electronic Mail Box. (I like Videos Guys better.) Mitch and Jon and the others know their stuff and can cut to the answer for your problem very quickly. The products they recommend work precisely as they say, and if there is a problem they identify it and correct without delay even if its my fault. They don't place blame, they just fix it. I would like to have a way to tell anyone who is thinking about getting into video editing to please not buy any equipment or software until they check with Video Guys. I wish someone had told me that before I started. It would save people a lot of money. From the sales people to the tech dept. it is a pleasant experience dealing with your company. I guess the word is out there about you to some extent. I was reading some posts on a Video editing board the other night and saw a post from someone just starting out, had a million questions and was confused. The first answer to the message said: "You need Video Guys" and gave your address. I thought "you got that right" Well its a rainy day here in Florida so I thought I would use a few minutes to thank you. Good luck to you people in the future.

A very satisfied customer, Ken May '02
PS Just talked to Mitch and picked out my Christmas present, Matrox RT2500.

Hello Gary,
My name is Aaron R. Cust#02xyz1234, I have done business and ordering from a great deal of online businesses and organazations. Through this process I have delt with a great many customer service reps. from average to pain in the neck. The reason I am writing to you today is on behalf of your rep. Jodi S. She is to be commended for doing an outstanding job. We ran into some complications processing my order. She was more than patient with dealing with them, and went out of her way to make sure it got done and done properly. I assure you that not only will I continue to do business through the electronic mailbox. I will divert my other purchases, regardless of slight price differences, to your organazation. I am also recommending the electronic mailbox/videoguys.com to others in the industry, for I know that they too hate dealing with most customer service reps. Well, I didn't intend to turn this into a long letter, but Jodi is to be commended for doing an excellent job,

Sincerely, Aaron Randerson May '02

Hey!! I just wanted to drop you guys a note and say that your site is amazing!!! The information you provide is invaluable and it is clearly delineated for easy processing. I'm new to the market but will definitely be using you guys for all my video needs.

Just so you know, I'm about to graduate from a top-notch film school with my MFA and I must say that your site provides a better education than any $2,000 class....

Thanks! May '02

I'd like you to know that whenever I need to purcase anything I always go to "Electronics Mail Box". Because of the great support you provide on the web, email and phone calls. Even when I call with a general question you respond. Your pricing is great and your support the best. You guy's got it right please don't ever change.

Thanks
Bob C. April '02

I am overwhelmed! Just got my Matrox RT-2500, G550 Video Card, ShuttlePro, and EZ keyboard. And no, I am NOT having problems. I am actually writing to say that I have NEVER dealt with a company that actually sent suggestions about installation and gave fixes to possible problems before you start! I am just floored. You have gained a new customer AND my recommendation to everyone I know that your site is the one to go to. Thanks for the heads up on installation. Hopefully, I won't need to ask for help since I am pretty savvy (however, I NEVER use the word expert) and build my own systems so I know what I have and what's going on inside the box. Oh, and I DO read the README files. And I HAVE read what you sent. And if more people would do that, they would have fewer problems in my (seldom humble) opinion. I have found over the years it takes less time to read a little and do the installation right the first time than it does to fix a botched installation, which can trash not only the installed product but the whole damned system!

Thanks Guys (and Girls)!
Chris R. March '02

Dear Videoguys,
I am not a customer who is in need of receiving service, but a reader who wishes to give authentic praise to you for the services you give! This new computer/video field can be so difficult that to be able to find a dealer that gives information (GOOD information!) is like rain on a desert! I'm not a customer yet but I will be! You folks have made it easy for me to want to buy from you. If it was marketing idea, I don't care, it works, it's natural (getting information along with the product), it feels good, and it's needed! My hats off to you for filling a very needed void. You know being that we customers are turning more and more into "prosumers," and that professional consumers need to be educated. Electric Mailbox is my needed school!

Thank you very very much!
Mark Smith March '02

I just wanted to extend a thank-you to everyone at Videoguys.com and Electronic Mailbox. A few months back I bought the Pyro Platinum package so I could do home video work with my Sony D8 camera, and before that, a Medea RAID-Bravo combo for office work. Everything has worked great. I felt like exclaming this too you in light of the many problems I see other folks have on various NLE and DTV forums (on occasion I'll give the link to yoursite). Your help staff is a great lifeline, and it's nice to talk with folks who have indepth knowledge with NO BULLS*T*H about what they sell....keep up the good work, and the next time I need to get some more gear, you can bet I'll be back.

From newsgroups and message boards:

Well, now I too must join the obsequious, accept-no-substitutes group of sycophants who swear by Gary Bettan and his company, Electronic Mailbox (www.videoguys.com).

I recently contacted Gary at his suggestion after trading some messages on our user forum. Gary gave me some good advice, and sold me a few key products for my NLE/DVD authoring system. And, yes, the price was fair and reasonable.

Most importantly, Gary was courteous and helpful, and my purchases arrived in a timely fashion. Everything as I had been promised. This kind of good, knowledgeable customer service doesn't happen very often, so I wanted to share my experience with our group.

Thanks, Gary! You are a good guy, and it is a pleasure doing business with you.

Mark

re: Company xyz DON'T BUY FROM THEM! - Then why did you?!!! (3/15/2000)

Ya know,

I cannot for the life of me figure out why oh why people from this forum would buy from anyone but The VideoGuys when purchasing capture cards (or anything else you could get from them).

Gary is helpful enough around here, and the company's return policy should be legendary enough by now to make this a no-brainer. I wish I had something else I needed to buy from their catalog just as a token of thanks for their general participation.

Most the companies manufacturing the stuff we use have thick and high brick walls around them with the only small gate guarded by incompetent "two day on the job" excuses for tech support. TVG's know every product they sell AND ARE A RETAIL OUTLET WITH THE BEST TECH SUPPORT YOU COULD WANT!

I'd love to more sympathetic to folks who buy elsewhere, but to have ever downloaded this ng and then buy from anyone but Gary and his buds is shear stupidity -- bordering on ungrateful.

Now if you, lifeson, can with a straight face say you didn't know TVG's existed prior to making this purchase, I understand, and you can't help that. But if you look in the mirror and know you knew went to company xyz to save ten bucks, eat the thing or fight, but learn your lesson.

No I don't get paid, or have any other vested interest in TVG's. But I might need something in the future. It would be a sad day if they by then rolled up the carpet and just built a wall like the rest of them, figuring their easily available expertise was just being scarfed without appreciation and used to purchase products elsewhere.

Folks, if you don't already know, use this little horror story of lifeson(one of a long litany) as a lifelesson as to why if you buy any of these temperamental gadgets, you buy them from the VideoGuys .

Carefully climbing off his 7' tall soapbox,

Steve

The Question: Videoguys.com - any good? (03/15/2000)
The answers:

  • Actually they seem to be one of the sites you can trust. They have a bunch of useful info on their site, and from a lot of posts here, most people seem to be happy with them.
  • I bought from them, goods were delivered promptly & at a fair price. Gary Bettan posts regularly on various lists & in this group, and writes occassionally for the consumer video magazine C&CV. Though the site is called www.videoguys.com the business is called 'The Electronic Mailbox'.
The information presented at their site is accurate, their pricing is fair & in my experience the service was prompt. I've never had occasion to ask for support, but note they have a 30 day exchange period on edit solutions -- a source of comfort given the configuration problems some systems offer.
  • I ordered from them, and they have been the best on the net for me so far.
  • I bought a DV500 and was unable to get it running, they let me return it and get an RT2000 with no hassle whatsoever. I have found their phone support to be outstanding.
  • VideoGuys (The Electronic Mailbox) is simply the best to do business with! I would not (IMHO) buy from anyone else!
  • I've bought from them and am very happy. They definately know what they're doing , and do it well.
  • Yes, they're very good! I ordered my Raptor card from them here in Vancouver Canada and received it 48hrs later! I also saved money even after the Canadian/US exchange.
  • Honest and reputable. I would definately buy from Gary again, and again, and again...
  • Gary's posts which do not shy away from responsibility but give explanations for customer experience, only reinforce my belief in their corporate integrity .
In addition, he represents one of the few vendors who actually r ead our newsgroups and responds with *useful* comments about software/hardware and system combinations. That's gotta give him some points.
  • I swear by them. I've bought a couple of capture cards from them and a couple other things.. they always promptly came through with the goods.. and have been very helpful answering setup questions I had.
  • I will only buy from Videoguys. I had to return my RT2000 due to incompatability. I will be purchasing a different card from them in a few days. Their customer service is top notch.

re: DV Raptor "BUYER BEWARE" (07/31/99)

Jim, and any other newsgroup folks ...
Unsolicited testimonial ... Buy from the VideoGuys and avoid this mess. I got an early DV300 and had all kinds of troubles with it. Gary B. swapped it for an EditDV and I have been dileriously happy ever since.
I don't care if they charge a bit more, it's still cheaper than my headaches.
    Ken

    >I'll second this vote!
The VideoGuys are tops. My problems were my mistakes, not theirs. They straightened me out with some good advice, took back good product in the form of OPENED SOFTWARE with no restocking fees and sold me what I needed. My sysytem is up and running and I couldn't be happier!
    Steve
    >>Same here--they took back a MotoDV package that neither we nor DO Tech Support could get to work and sent us a Raptor in its place. I'm more than happy to pay the price difference with VideoGuys/ElectronicMailbox, compared to Yet Another IngramMicro reseller who doesn't know from video.
    >>>It's true. I've known Gary since the CompuServe forum days...even enjoyed the Max updates before he was born!
Their return policy saved me...and was absolutely no hastle. When I jump into the computer editing arena...I'll call Gary and friends.

    >>I agree...you can't beat these guys for service an support. They actually know something about digital video and are willing to try and help if you have a problem.
    >I've gotten far faster/better support from the VideoGuys than I have ever received from Asus, FastMultimedia, and ULead. The 30-day return policy was what swung me the first time I bought something. I completely agree, you can't put a price on countless hours of frustration when your new "toy" doesn't work right out of the box (usually because I did something wrong) and you can't get the manufacturer to help...or...you discover it wasn't really all that you wanted.
I'm a happy customer, and will continue buying from them. Support makes the difference (and by the way, I find their prices competitive).

Where to buy the DV Raptor at the lowest price (07/14/99)

    Mike,

I will second what Gary has to say. I would have been lost without them. I only wish they sold more of the components I had to buy. I would have bought as many of the pieces from them as I could. As it was, I bought a stand alone version of Media Studio Pro to go along with a Dazzle. That experience opened my eyes as to what I was getting into if I was going to do it right.

They took back the Ulead stand alone, no questions, and the credit came quickly to my cc. I bought the Promise motherboard with the FastTrak on board and an AV Master 2000 from them. Without their help, I'd still be configuring the mess. But they were there for every call (plenty of them), and my system is smokin!

    Steve

PS Thanks again Gary and the rest!

    >Actually, it's Electronic Mailbox. They are A-1 OK in my book. I've bought several cards from them. They not only sell the stuff, they use it and can help you with the setup problems. They seem to like helping you solve the problems. Don't think you can go wrong there.

    >>Have used Videoguys for several years, found them competely dependable, even too generous. I find that support and reliable information are vital, and they are tops. We are fortunate in having such a dealer available. No, I have no connecton with the management!

    >>I have purchased several boards and drives and "stuff" from these guys. THEY ARE GREAT! I could not have used my DC30 plus without there help. I called to order the DC30- and they lold me "wait a couple of days and the DC30+ will be available" saved me a lot of problems and avoided upgrading later. I plan to order a DC50 from them as soon as Miro supports Premiere5.1

Antbody knows anything about The Electronic Mailbox (9/21/98)

    Hello:
i would like to known something about a firm called The Electronic Mailbox , whose existence i had never known but in internet some days ago- They deliver video hardware and so, it is because i want to buy something quite expansive and they would send it from Usa to Spain, and i am a little frightened because of this long distance.
    Can i trust them?
Does their 30 days money back guarantee really work?
Any comment on this questions would be gratefully thanked.

    >I purchased my card through them. They have not just been a good retailer, but also an invaluable source of information on DTV. I've never seen a bad post about those guys over at the Electronic Mailbox.
    http://www.videoguys.com
    Jason

    >Absolutely. I, like countless others on this group, have purchased from them in the past. They are above reproach in their business dealings and are a wealth of information to the prospective purchaser.
    Kent

    >>I purchased my DV2000 from them. No problems. And they have the best DV Info web site. I don't think you will have any problems.
    Later,
    Troy

    >>They are quite simply the most reliable source of buying DV products online. I wouldn't buy from any one else.
    Ken

    >>I just had a DV capture card shipped to the UK from them. Good service so far, and their prices seem very competitive.
    Robert Rees
    London, UK

    >I have dealt with them, took advantage of their 30 day money back guarantee, and swapped the first card for a 2nd, and even got some money back on the trade. They were fair with me. If I ever need another system, I know where I will go.

Question RE: The Electronic Mailbox (9/06/98)

I'm putting together a new system and I want a Fast AV/Master. I noticed The Electronic Mailbox has a phenominal price(c. $600). Is there something I'm missing here? I've seen it advertised for upwards of $720. E-mail is appreciated. Thank you.
    Brandon
    >The Electronic Mailbox generally beats the prices of competitors and you can rest assured the people who run the business are fair and honest.
    >>Dude, The Electronic mailbox has great prices!! I have the dc30+ and dv300, both from them.
I purchased a Miro card from Electronic Mailbox. I was having some problems getting it set up at first, and thought I was going to gave to return it. They gave me assistance on several calls to try to resolve the problem, and when it looked like it was not going to work, they issued an RMA with no problems whatsoever. (I found my problem shortly after that phone call and kept the card.) I would highly recommend them for NLE purchases. They also offer a 30 day money back guarantee on NLE products.
    >>>Ditto!

    >>>> I just bought one on Gary's reccomendation. The price is real, the product is real, the package appears to be the full package, and the tech support (via email) was outstanding. They have my future business.
    Peter

Although...I'm new to this newsgroup...I will state the following..... After purchasing a Miro DC30 from a company going out of business (got a great deal)it is a relief to find a good honest company that advertises and post on this news group.
I recently upgraded my drivers to the new Intel bus master drivers....this helped my system but also killed my miro card. (Created an IRQ conflict that was unresolveable in Win95)
Being moderately versed with computer knowledge...i thought I could figure this one out. But having no luck...I contacted a company which I haven't purchased anything from and they helped me. I had seen their website and have read their post here.
I was very pleased the company not only accepted my call but knew basically what the problem was. I fixed the problem within 30 minutes of calling.
The Electronic Mailbox was the company called....and I think the company deserves your support.
There will always be a small percentage of customers that feel they received bad customer service. But I believe that if a company will help an individual that hasn't purchased anything (from them)....they are a great asset.
I will....in the future....support The Electronic Mailbox with my patrionage.
Just thought everyone here should know about these guys.

I can't let this go. How many times do we see this type of outrageous claim made by some slimey sales-guy in a newsgroup?

Well, this time it is true, and I just want to add that for me Gary is *the* best example I've seen on the net of how to sell you products. His advice, honesty, promptness and responsiveness to the needs of r.v.d readers (as well as his great site) make him an excellent role-model for any commercial group who want to see how to really advertise on Internet (remember guys, the keywords are *honesty* and *helpfulness*).

Thanks, again, too, for all your suggestions and advise at pre-purchases with regard to the computer peripherals to purchase toward building up this system. The install docs you supplied with the package were extremely accurate and helpful in the installation of the boards and software, too. I rate you A++++ in sales and support!!

    To the Video Guys,

I am not accustomed to thanking an internet sight for their content, but, I must say "thank you" to you. I am a Newbie at NLE and DV. My career was 10 years in Broadcast using of course linear editing only. I have recently left the field and now do Corporate Videos.

Of course being a "Newbie" has many challenges. Mainly how the heck does all this work and what do you really need to make the future happen today on the desktop I use at work.

To make it even more of a challenge, as if that were possible, the gentleman that was going to teach me (my old boss), left to take a new job shortly after hiring me. Now I have no real resources for the technology. I'm relying on any reading material I can find and long hours practicing my craft the hard way. That of course being trial and error.

Which leads me to the thank you portion of this e-mail. Of course like every videographer/editor/producer I have illusions of grandeur now that I can do, at home, or work, what used to been done at a TV station at a fraction of the cost. At any rate I stumbled across your sight while trying to find chromakey backdrops for where I work.

Your sight was extremely helpful and honest in its reviews of software and operating systems, which is a real rarity when I am trying to learn and compare apples to apples (no pun intended). It has helped me progress in my knowledge of the industry since everyday for me is truly a new learning experience.

You have me hooked, for when I too can afford the future for a home business, to look you up and purchase from you because of this sight.

    Thank you,
    Allen

Thanks for the advise. After much thinking I decided to scrap the AV Master and per-order a DV500 thanks to its low price DV/Analog combination. Figured if I'm going to do it, do it right the first time.

    Chris J
    JTV Studios

P.S. You're web site is the finest in its class! I sell DV cameras and recommend your site to all my customers looking for DV info. Their compliment is always, "It's great to finally talk to someone who knows what they're talking about and can send me to one place with all my questions answered!"

    Dear VideoGuys,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your site and thank you as well. I have been in the search for a capture card ever since my Hauppauge Win/Motion 60 died on me. It was a great card, but I was lost when it left me for that big capture card grave yard in the sky. When in need, I turned to www.videoguys.com. I almost gave up my search, but your friendly video handbook pointed me to the FAST MULITMEDIA AV/MASTER 2000 Capture card. I love this piece of equipment as it works even better than my old card! Thanks again for the excellent and comprehensive work you have done! You deserve it!

    Steve D,
    Wings President

    Gary,

I spoke with you today, Tuesday, about my DC30 pro having sound sync problems. You told me the problem was likely caused by my 22GB hard drive having only 2 GB of free space on it. You told me to delete what I could and the problem would go away.

Using Premiere's Project Trimmer, I was able to free up about 13GB of space and as you suspected, the sound was then in sync for the whole 30 minute piece.

Thank you very much for your help. You were a life saver. And you made me glad I bought my capture card from your store.

    Bob W.

    To Gary at Videoguys--
I just read your online review of the DC1000. I purchased one of the first DC1000's from Videoguys (with the DV option), and thought you might want to know some of my early experiences. The caveat on my comments is that this is the first video capture card/editing product I've purchased, and I have not nearly put all the features to the test. But in a nutshell I am highly satisfied so far. In fact, if you want a product endorsement, it would be: "Everything I've asked it to do has given me a huge WOW!"

And finally, just a general comment: I've relied on the Web to get started in this new field, and have tried to absorb as much information as possible. Your site has been the most useful and informative of all the many good sources out there. So THANK YOU. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will make a point to purchase products through you as a result of the great information received.

    Phil
    Gary,
I recently returned my Pinnacle DC1000 cards to you as I was unable to capture audio via the Firewire input. After a DV I/O card replacement from Pinnacle, that did not solve the problem, you agreed to swap me out with new boards. I received them today, installed them, and Voila! All is well. Thanks for working with me to get the system operational. I have always had high confidence in Pinnacle, and you guys have lived up to your promises as well. I will continue to use and recommend your business.
    Thanks again,
    Kevin

    Dear Customer Service Dept.
I purchased a Pyro Digital Editing System & had a nightmare trying to get a response from their tech support. After a dilligent search I found your site. After reading your hints & tips I now have a system that is working. I haven't tried it very much but just to get it up & running after about 2 mos. is a joy. Thankyou for being there. I wish I had found your site first.

    Pat
    Gary,
this is no joke. I think the Electronic Mail Box represents the very best of what the internet has to offer. I have watched how you treat your customers, including the ones who are in way over their head and are little crazy. Anybody who asks me how to get started in video, or NLE get sent over to EMB to learn.
    Keep it up.
    Rod

Thanks so very, very much to whoever went to so much trouble in making your exceptional and elite website!!! I have learned what is needed to get into DTV properly thanks to all your hard work. When I order it will definitely be from Videoguys...

    Sincerely,
    Larry Beaird
I know everybody likes to gripe on this list, but I thought I'd throw a curveball and introduce a "good vendor report" in honor of Electronic Mailbox.

I had previously ordered a Pinnacle DV300 from these folks. After messing around with this board and Pinnacle's drivers for most of my 30-day trial period, I called E.M. and reported that I was unhappy with the board's performance and would probably be forced to return it. I mentioned that the problems could potentially be fixed with new drivers from Pinnacle (date uncertain), or perhaps I would need to move to a completely different solution, such as Canopus DVRex-M1 or EditDV (both of which E.M. sold). The folks at E.M. said I could do whatever I wanted -- return the board then for a full refund (less shipping), or hold onto it past the 30-day mark to see if I could resolve my problems. If I couldn't resolve my problems, they would be happy to credit my purchase at a future date against the purchase of DVRex or EditDV.

As it turns out, I gave up on the DV300 finally. I called E.M., spoke to Phil, and he cheerfully agreed to credit the DV300 against a new purchase (I chose the DVRex-M1). There was absolutely no penalty, except the lost shipping costs. And this was just over THREE MONTHS after I purchased DV300 from them. (I think the key here is that I called during the original 30-day period. I would not expect E.M. to honor returns that are first called in months after purchase.)

Electronic Mailbox gets my standing ovation, and future business. I suggest you give them your business, too.

Find them on the Web at www.videoguys.com, or 800-323-2325.

Just to let you know, you guys win my award for "most cool site" of the week. Thanks for all of the unbiased info! Keep it up. A suggestion: I am looking for a digital camcorder. Could you put a few links to places that sell cameras on your page?

    Dear Videoguy

Congratulations on a brilliant and information site. I've been DV editing for a while and don't know how I've existed without the info on your pages.
    Well done!

    dear video guys,

thanks for all of your technical support and advice and hand holding during my frustrating baptism by fire into the world of nonlinear video editing. it took me two weeks (my video card went out on me but Dell took care of it) but I'm up and running and producing promotional videos just like the guys in Hollywood. Hurray!. The techs and engineers at Ulead, VideoRaids and AV Master U.S were also a great help. i couldn't have done it without them. the technical information and hints on your websites steered me into the right direction, too. Keep me on your mailing list. Thanks again.

I have spent most of the night reading the articles on all the web pages in cyberverse trying to come up with a workable digital editing system. Jim (your Jim) spent a few minutes with me (on your dime) and settled the issues. I appreciate his help very much.
Trying to wade through the advertising and hype almost drove me to beating my wife and strangling my Cockatiels who are trying to learn the Andy Griffith theme song, all night long.

I've spent the last while exploring your website and just have to tell you, I thing it's great. Really. I mean, this is what a website should be like. You don't just catalog your products, you take a lot of time and effort to inform and educate (and entertain!). While I got your web address from your ad in Camcorder & Computer Video Magazine (or was it VideoMaker?), and I have been surfing various vendors looking for the "best deal" on a capture card & storage (I've decided on the TrueVision Bravada 2000 and Medea VideoRAID 2/10), I've decided that, regardless if I could save a few bucks from a different vendor (and I'm not sure I could), I'm going to buy from you guys. Its a testament to your informative website. You'll be hearing from me later this week with an order.

Once again, just wanted to complement you on your fine web site!

    Videoguys:

You are the greatest! I just wanted to say "thank you" for the service you provide, because you have a terrific web site with lots of useful information, and you have great sales as well.

I use MediaStudio 2.5, so when I read on the MUG that Ulead was coming out with a new version, I immediately thought of The Electronic Mailbox for more information. Sure enough, you have already announced your sale on the upgrade, and I got some helpful info about an upcoming post planned for the MUG. Thanks.

I show all of our houseguests examples of the kinds of video projects I've made, even with the low-end miro DC-10. They simply cannot believe the output from a Hi-8 camcorder and a computer! For the record, before I ever got into NLE, it was The Electronic Mailbox "DTV Handbook" that turned my spark of interest into the necessary flame.

    DIY Capture Card Installations

Over the past several issues, I have noticed that you feel many of your readers would run into trouble if they tried to install a video capture card themselves. I'd like to offer you and your readers some very encouraging news on this front. Things have gotten much better and it really isn't that difficult to install a capture card in a current (less than 18-months old) computer. Here are the key reasons why:
    1. Plug and play does actually work with today's video capture cards.
    2. Most inexpensive FireWire cards (i.e. PyroDV, Studio DV or SIIG) are OHCI-compliant and the drivers are built into the operating system (Win98SE and above).
    3. Disk drives, which used to be problematic, are faster than ever. Performance is high and prices are low.
One final piece of advice for your readers: Where you buy your capture card can be as important a decision as what card you buy. I just wanted to make sure your readers know they can do it themselves (even on an older computer) and that there are resources, such as our site, www.videoguys.com, that can help.
