FastTrakÒ100 is the first RAID controller card that fully supports the complete specifications of new Ultra ATA/100 drives for RAID 0 (striping), RAID 1 (mirroring), and 0+1 (striping plus mirroring) array configurations. Ultra ATA/100 technology allows drives to transfer data at rates up to 100MB/sec (versus 66MB/sec under ATA/66).
What sets FastTrak100 apart is that it links two or more Ultra ATA/100 drives to let users sustain data transfers nearing 70MB/sec and bursting data at up to100MB/sec – all without the use of cache memory. Supports New Ultra ATA/100 Drives and Other Existing EIDE Drives
FastTrak100 boosts data transfer performance when striping multiple Ultra ATA/100 drivers versus onboard PCI IDE controllers and single drives. With two or more Ultra ATA/100 drives under RAID 0, FastTrak100 offers more than 70MB/sec sustained data transfer rates and supports the 100MB/sec burst transfer rate of these drives.
Drive Striping
Under RAID 0, FastTrak100 links up to four drives as one huge "virtual" drive as seen by the system (i.e. four 50GB Ultra100/1000 drives would appear as a singledrive of 200GB).
Mirroring and/or Mirroring + Striping Capability
Under RAID 1, FastTrak100 mirrors data to a second identical data drive every time a user saves. This on-the-fly operation provides complete fault-tolerant operation for advanced data protection against drive crashes. User keeps working if one drive fails without losing data.
The RAID "0+1" setup allows the user to link two drives together and mirror data to a second set of drives. Again, identical data is sent to all drives every time a user saves -- allowing the user to keep working even if a drive fails. In some instances, two drives can fail and data integrity will still be supported. FastTrak100 also supports using a "hot" spare drive (under RAID 1 with optional Promise SuperSwap100 removable drive chassis) to replace a failed drive for immediate data rebuilding.
Dual Channel Design
FastTrak100’s dual channel design with multiple channel access effectively doubles data transfers and access times over other ATA host adapters or controllers. FastTrak100 uses multiple Ultra ATA/100 drives to share the workload of a single drive.
Onboard BIOS
Automatically recognizes drive types and configures for their optimum speed, including Ultra ATA/100 and older IDE drives. FastTrak100 automatically checks for the presence of the required 80-wire/40-pin cable needed to support Ultra ATA/100 drives. If the traditional 40-wire/40-pin IDE cable is used, FastTrak100 will automatically set the highest speed of data transfers to Ultra ATA/33 mode.
CRC Data Protection Support
For Ultra ATA drives, FastTrak100 supports enhanced data protection called Cyclical Redundancy Check versus onboard EIDE controllers to check data integrity at high speeds.
Bus Mastering
FastTrak100 offloads I/O management to optimize CPU processing for data handling which improves overall performance.
Co-exists with Other Controllers
FastTrak100 co-exists with onboard ATA motherboard ports. This allows the user to use FastTrak100/Ultra ATA drive storage subsystem separately from the boot drive (used particularly in audio/video applications) or to add more ATA devices to the motherboard.
