The MediaVault 4105 is based on HUGE System's 3rd generation RAID architecture, combining the latest 4Gb Fibre Channel interface technology with cost-effective ATA disk drive technology. It delivers the reliable performance needed for today's most demanding HD applications. The MediaVault 4105 is a five drive desktop enclosure compatible with Mac, Windows, Unix and Linux platforms, as well as major brands of video editing, capture and playback cards/devices. The MediaVault 4210 is a dual channel rackmount version of the 4105. The 4105 is capable of sustaining 300 MB/sec. A single MediaVault 4105 will record and play back the highest quality video, including 1080i HD/10 bit in HDT mode; or multiple uncompressed standard definition video streams - making it the ideal storage solution for standard definition and high definition editing.
Improved Simplicity & Connectivity
Fibre Channel dramatically simplifies installations - offering smaller, simpler cables, allowing more resilience to signal interference, and enabling much greater cable distances than parallel SCSI. Moreover, Fibre Channel supports multiple topologies, including point-to-point, arbitrated loop, and switched fabric, enabling the MediaVault to operate equally effectively in direct attached or storage area network (SAN) environments (SAN software sold separately). You don't have to worry about existing Fibre Channel infrastructure either - MediaVault's 4Gb interface is backwards compatible with 2Gb and 1Gb Fibre Channel components.
Highly Reliable
All MediaVault Disk Arrays allow you to select either RAID 0 or RAID 3 to match the performance and reliability best suited for the application. Utilize RAID 0 (striped drives) to achieve the greatest performance, or utilize RAID 3 (data protected) for excellent performance and the added protection of no performance degradation and no data loss if a drive fails. Huge Systems' highly efficient RAID engine performs rebuilds of failed drives in the background - with easy service and upgrade.

FAQ's for the MediaVault 4105 & 4210
|
Is the MediaVault 4105 easy to install?
Absolutely! Take it out of the box, plug the 4Gb LC optical Fibre Channel cable into the LC Fibre Channel port in your computer, format it with your operating system and you're done! Full instruction for Windows and Mac formatting / partitioning are in the User's Guide.
How fast is the MediaVault 4105?
FAST! Check out the Benchmark results:
4Gb 4105/4210 - Performance map
4Gb 4105/4210 - ATTO benchmark on Windows.
4Gb 4105/4210 - benchmark with Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro.
4Gb 4105/4210 - benchmark results with AJA Kona 2 |
What is HDT Mode?
High Definition Turbo mode insures 200 Mbytes per second per channel Data Rate (with reduction of capacity). This ensures the available space on the array will meet HD un-compressed resolution requirements
Do you test the products before you ship them?
Absolutely! Each 4105 undergoes at least 20 hours of continuous testing before it ships. We scan each and every sector of each and every disk multiple times to make sure there are no "bad spots".
What if I have a problem in the future? Do you have built in diagnostics?
Absolutely! We can diagnose the majority of the problems in the field with the supplied diagnostic cable and our built in diagnostics.
What cable type do I need for use with Fibre Channel 4Gb host adapters?
The 4210 comes complete with LC optical connector(s) and a 3 meter LC to LC duplex optical cable(s). Cooper cables are not support at 4Gb rate.
Are IDE drives as reliable as Fibre Channel or SCSI drives?
Absolutely! In video applications, IDE drives are actually better. They have fewer parts, use less power, and run cooler than Fibre Channel or SCSI drives.
How expandable is the MediaVault 4210
Using a Fibre Channel switch, the expansion is virtually un-limited
I'm confused. Is the MediaVault 4210 Fibre Channel or IDE?
The connection between your computer and the MediaVault is 4Gbit Fibre Channel. Internally, the Huge MediaVault 4210 uses 10 IDE drives.
