Many ProVideo Coalition readers may recall my article called Untapped features in Sony NXCAM’s new HDMI output from June 2011. At that point, I surveyed several external HD video recorder manufacturers as to their plans to support the multiple new NXCAM features. (This of course includes the FS100 which Adam Wilt just reviewed, along with other NXCAMs from Sony.) Read More

What a long, strange trip it’s been for Magic Bullet Denoiser. The quite amazing, though crash-prone, denoising tool from Red Giant Software was removed from Red Giant’s product lineup late last year when some third-party technology used in Denoiser 1 was purchased by Google. In Google’s quest to make crappy YouTube video look better, we lost one of the better denoise tools that I had ever used. Red Giant promised at the time, however, that its “team is hard at work developing a new version of D Read More

We have been waiting for this for some time. Rumours of release dates came and went for well over a year. Well, today it was officially unveiled. There are many questions I have about it and I have yet to see any footage PROPERLY (i.e. not compressed)…but here is the official press release from Canon… Read More

So the day we’ve all been waiting for has come. For over two years, we’ve been scouring the net in search of fuzzy, shadowy images that might lend some proof that Canon actually had the Mark III in the works. Like Bigfoot, Elvis and UFOs, sightings were everywhere, but alas many were hoaxes—cruel tricks that played with the emotions of would be Mark III buyers. Read More

When I reviewed Final Cut Pro X last July I had some conflicting reactions. While I felt that the initial release was largely Final Cut Pro in name only, I also recognized that Apple challenged us (angering many) by bringing some very interesting new ways of working to the editing world. But because the original version of Final Cut Pro X lacked some very basic features, it felt a bit schizophrenic and, quite honestly, like an application that was released too soon. Read More

“Adobe Premiere Pro is our Swiss Army knife. We can put virtually any file onto the timeline—or mix and match a variety. The Adobe Mercury Playback Engine decodes just about anything and plays it back so quickly that as soon as we think of an idea, we can all view it and start fine-tuning.”

In the past half-year, I’ve used FCP-X nearly exclusively for my corporate video editing. In that time, I’ve had to to deliver a wide range of work for a very diverse group of recognizable national clients – often under very tight deadlines. I doubt I could have hit these deadlines while delivering the same quality without FCP-X. That’s based on looking back at what I’ve done, the deadlines, the programs and client requirements and how FCP-X often helped me work faster and more efficiently than Read More

Apple has recently announced that a new OS is already on the horizon for the Mac, OS X Mountain Lion. If you watch the overview video on the website, it does a nice job of presenting the basic features of the OS and how it draws a lot of features from the iOS devices. I’ve seen a couple of early articles that make a big deal out of the fact that that new name is just OS X, not Mac OS X. I honestly don’t care about the name, I think this is more about Apple recognizing that OS X Lion was not quit Read More
