AJA Video Systems streamlined lens to post workflows with the introduction of its Ki Pro family of portable video recorders. The newest product in that family, Ki Pro Mini has been in high demand, facilitating direct camera-to-edit workflows that eliminate the time consuming video encode step. AJA is working jointly with Avid(R) to build support for the Avid DNxHD(R) video codec into Ki Pro Mini, enabling further production efficiencies to Avid Media Composer(R). Read More

Industry infatuation with Apple’s ProRes continues to build, from ARRI’s adoption of ProRes for its Alexa digital cinema camera to AJA’s unveiling at IBC last September of its latest ProRes field recorder, the Ki Pro Mini.

AJA's latest acquisition solution is a winner.

AJA is now shipping the Ki Pro Mini, a major step forward in the company’s line of direct-from-camera acquisition products. First came the I/O HD, a product I reviewed at its introduction some four years ago. At that point, its ability to transcode any input into ProRes was revolutionary but I remarked what was needed was some way to make it portable and record on the fly. Well, two years later came the KiPro, a product which remains a hot item. Read More

AJA started shipping its first ProRes-based video recorder, the Ki Pro, in the fall of 2009. Recording via HD-SDI in ProRes was impressive, but the Ki Pro was too big and heavy to be useful for much in-the-field work. Now AJA has shrunk the Ki Pro down to a fraction of the original’s size, added some features, taken a few away, and dropped the price in half. Viola, you have the new Ki Pro Mini. Read More

Like a miniature version of the original KiPro from AJA (which I reviewed in October 2009), the KiPro Mini performs many of the same functions (although not all of them) in a fraction of the space —and at a fraction of the cost— and is designed to dock onto the back of many professional camcorders, while it makes a higher quality recording than that is possible internally with most of them. With a flood of other 4:2:2 dockable recorders reaching the market (and one that existed previously which Read More

AJA’s Ki Pro Mini is one of those must-have units in your camera bag. Few products offer such diverse functionality in such a bite-size form factor. You get great quality and good value with a unit that integrates nicely into any Final Cut (Apple ProRes) editing pipeline. The unit will appeal to the seasoned veteran and indie market. Read More

A tapeless video recorder that attaches to inexpensive or older cameras, and lets them record a higher-quality picture than they could otherwise. What’s more, the Ki Pro records video as QuickTime files that are ready for editing in Final Cut Pro (no time-consuming digitizing or transcoding required). Read More

This past April, we scoured the multiple exhibit floors of the 2009 NAB Show for the latest and greatest innovations for our readers. Sixteen exemplary items were selected as winners of our annual Vidy Awards, the longest-running NAB awards program. Products were nominated by a jury of editors and contributors to Videography and DV magazines. This will probably go down as one of our most successful NAB shows ever! We've picked up several new lines, the most significant one I can tell you about is AJA, but we will have more exciting news to share with you as the spring heads into summer. We also saw the launch of a new product line-up form Matrox, giving them affordable HD I/O devices at every price/ user level. Sony announced a new version of Vegas Pro (9), but the even bigger news was Vegas getting more attention and support from t Read More
