Red Giant was gracious enough to allow me to test-drive Colorista II. Building and improving on the original in every way, Colorista II is ac color grading plug-in for Final Cut Pro users. Colorista II also supports Adobe After Effects and Premier.

Colorista II gives you the ability to grade with Primary, Secondary, HSL, and Master Controls using color wheels all within the Final Cut Pro. This provides you with an unprecedented amount of control from a plug-in, rather than jumping back and Read More

Complex and confounding to some, using Apple Color cries out for expert training, and Class on Demand tackles the task.

Class on Demand’s latest releases are easily among their most challenging: Nine hours of training spanning two discs, aimed at unraveling the mysteries of Apple Color — by far the most complicated (and often overlooked) component of Final Cut Studio. DV got a chance to sit down with Class on Demand founder Paul Holtz as well as training instructors Steve Hullfish and Bob Sl Read More

A bit earlier this year Euphonix began shipping its highly anticipated MC Color control surface. This unit was designed for use with Apple Color and has been welcomed by Color users to add another option to their hardware based control surface choices. Until the MC Color came along your choices were either one of the JL Cooper units or the more affordable Tangent Wave. At $1,499 the MC Color doesn’t break what I think is the magic $999 mark (magic in the sense that it will put a control surface Read More

In recent years, Red Giant has produced some wonderful color grading applications. I have long been a fan of Red Giant's Magic Bullet Looks and have used their Colorista plug-in whenever the project called for it. Not to replace either of these plug-ins, but to provide both an alternative and supplement, Red Giant's new offering, Magic Bullet Mojo, provides a quicker alternative to achieve the look you are seeking. In this article Walter Biscardi, Jr. tries out the new MC Color controller from Euphonix.

Apple Color has brought a powerful color enhancement tool to the masses much like Final Cut Pro did for editing when it was released. What was once possible with only a high end hardware based system, like daVinci, was now in the hands of anyone with $999 who purchases Final Cut Studio. What has finally started to appear on the landscape are reasonably priced hardware controllers that emulates the same Read More

The delivery guy walked in the door just over a week ago with a box containing a sparking, new, fresh off the assembly line MC Color control surface from Euphonix. For those who aren’t familiar with this unit, it’s a brand new entry into the affordable (relatively speaking at $1,499) trackball based hardware support for Apple Color. The Euphonix unit has the Tangent Wave square in its sights with a similar price point and similar functionality. In fact it’s hard to talk about one without compari Read More

As I followed Apples presentation on my favorite tech blogs, while watching folks reactions on Twitter (follow us) and Facebook (become a fan), I started thinking about how the iPad could impact content creation. Sure it’s a great delivery vehicle for video and multimedia, but could it be used to help us make content of the future? I’m 100% certain it could, but it may take a few generations of iPads to get there. So in an attempt to speed up the process, I’m putting out this wish list of applic Read More

Apple has been listening to its customers. This release directly addresses some of the workflow issues of the past, while adding robust enhancements and maintaining the terrific functionality and interface of the original app. It’s a ridiculous value with a ton of bang for the buck. It will make life easier—and much more fun—for a lot of editors. Read More
