"The Matrox MAX technology has revolutionized our workflow. Our camera crews typically would record to tape or FireStore drives using our Canon HV20/HV40, Sony PMW-EX1, and Panasonic HPX500 camcorders. With Apple’s announcement of the iPad there’s been tons of articles, tweets and blog posts about this upcoming piece of hardware. There’s also been tons of ink spilled about just how this little device could be useful in the filmmaking process as well, some right here on this site. I had decided not to write anything at all about the iPad since pretty much everything had already been said. But I got to thinking how this device might integrate more with the post-production side of the filmmaking Read More

Last week, Adobe invited a variety of well-known people in the industry to come get a closer look at what they’ve been working on, and to provide feedback on their direction. To Adobe’s credit, this was no “preaching to the choir” session; many of those invited were FCP and Avid editors, and several current users gave Adobe personnel an earful both publicly and privately. It was also made clear to us that no specific product versions or release dates were being discussed, and that we couldn’t re Read More

It's hard to believe another year has gone by. I think 2009 was one of the most challenging years for our industry. The troubled US economy created budget problems for videographers, video editors and producers on every level. In today's economy every Penney counts and before we invest in new technology, we have to be sure of the benefits.

In 2009 Tapeless camcorders started dominating the landscape, at every level of video production, each with their own unique wrinkles and complexity. Th Read More

One of the biggest benefits of the Final Cut Studio bundle of applications, is that it truly replicates all the parts of most facility service offerings: edit (Final Cut Pro), audio editing/mixing (Soundtrack Pro), color grading (Color), motion graphics (Motion) and compression/web/authoring (Compressor, DVD Studio Pro). Apple has done this better than its competitors, making it easy to stay within the Apple/Final Cut ecosystem. Read More
