EDIUS is used by professionals and broadcasters alike because it’s fast, easy to use and rock solid. It’s the perfect choice for multi-format editing.
EDIUS – More Formats, More Workflows EDIUS® nonlinear editing software is designed for any broadcast and postproduction environment, especially thoseusing newer, tapeless forms
Ultimate File-based Workflow Perfect for file-based workflows, EDIUS offers real-time, multi-track, mixed-format editing, compositing, chromakeying, titling, and timeline output capabilities. In addition to the standard formats supported by the EDIUS family of NLEs, EDIUS supports P2 DVCPRO, AVC-Intra, XDCAM, Ikegami GF, and Canon’s XF format and EOS movie format. It also supports capturing from tape devices such as DV and HDV.
Exceptional Mixed Format Editing Featuring unrivaled real-time video transcoding technology, EDIUS converts between HD and SD resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates—all in real time. You can edit in HD and place 4:3 SD video, or mix NTSC and PAL sources, or combine them all into projects in other resolutions and frame rates without wasting a single moment on conversion or rendering.
New HQX Codec for 10-bit Video Workflow EDIUS features the revolutionary HQX codec for 10-bit video support. Designed with scalable technology, this innovative codec offers the highest image quality and performance available in any HD editing platform with support for alpha channel. The HQX codec not only provides superior luma and chroma sampling of HD video, but features an adjustable bit rate for increased video quality when capturing and encoding on high-performance systems. By using HQX, you can also export video from other graphic software with alpha channel in 10-bit.
New Features in EDIUS 6 EDIUS 6 offers more than 100 new features, such as 4K, 2K, and free size project support, advanced timeline workflow improvements, 16 ISO multicam support, new source browser, free shape mask filter, track matte keyer, and AVCHD exporter to name just a few. The editing engine has been tuned for better real-time performance, and the enhanced Proxy Mode opens up exciting possibilities for entirely new editing workflows.

Real-Time Saves Time Grass Valley EDIUS NLE software gives you more real-time SD and HD editing performance than any other NLE. Whether you are working with video filters, keyframed 3D DVEs, transitions, or titles, EDIUS will always deliver, in full resolution, at full frame rate quality.
EDIUS performs on-the-fly conversion of frame rates, aspect ratios, and resolutions of any clip placed on the timeline that differs from the current project’s setting, and can seamlessly edit clips of different formats without transcoding them. There’s also real-time 2D and 3D GPU effects. That means no waiting for effects to be rendered.
Best-in-Class Format Support The design philosophy behind EDIUS is focused on being able to work immediately with the latest, cutting-edge video format technology from major video equipment manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, JVC, Canon, Ikegami, and of course, Grass Valley.
As the industry continues its migration from tape-based media to file-based disk media, EDIUS is always on the forefront of new formats as they emerge, including the Grass Valley Infinity™ REV PRO, SONY XDCAM, and Panasonic P2.
More Codecs – All Included As Standard EDIUS has always been at the very forefront of codec technology. It can be used to native edit Infinity JPEG 2000, DVCPRO HD, HDV 1080i, HDV 720p, AVCHD, and AVC-Intra material. Few editing applications can boast such extensive native editing support.
EDIUS also incorporates the acclaimed Canopus® HQ intermediate codec, developed to provide editors with the same experience editing HD as they would expect with SD. This is especially useful for "heavy" codecs—such as AVCHD—which can be edited on PCs with much less CPU power than is required for native editing. EDIUS really provides the "best of both worlds."
Within EDIUS, all codecs are included as standard – MPEG-2, Infinity JPEG 2000, AVC-Intra, AVCHD. Keeping your assets native means no conversion and no loss of quality.
More Export Options When you are ready to output your project, EDIUS makes it fast and easy. You can create a batch export list to deliver part or all of your projects in different formats. The built-in MPEG segment encoding feature allows you to encode MPEG-2 streams with the MPEG and avoid unnecessary recompression of MPEG footage. You can also use the built-in DVD encoding and authoring software to create a simple, polished product for customer review and approval.

For example, the latest version of EDIUS (version 6.05, distributed free of charge to registered version 6.0 users from the Grass Valley driver download page), brings new video file formats and hardware-assisted H.264 encoding, This latest update also supports both 50p & 60p file import, allowing for a smoother workflow within EDIUS 6.
"This activity is being sparked by Apple's recent dramatic changes to the Final Cut editing product, but we thought that Avid and Adobe customers should benefit too," said Charlie Dunn, Executive Vice President of Products for Grass Valley. "We're committed to the professional production marketplace for the long term and will continue to advance the program's many capabilities for the benefit of our customers, and anyone that wants to produce high-quality content faster and more efficiently."
