Overview

Do you have a new compact HD camcorder that records to a hard drive or media cards using AVCHD? The image quality from these camcorders are superb – full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution. The problem is that editing these files is a bear. While many applications claim they can edit AVCHD, it's a choppy, sluggish workflow. That's why you need the new NeoScene plug-in from CineForm. It allows you to edit HDV and more importantly AVCHD much more efficiently, without the need for a super fast
NeoScene converts HDV, AVCHD, and Canon 5K Mk II sources into professional-quality CineForm files for higher visual quality while editing your video/film projects in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 for PC, Sony Vegas Pro 8, Apple Final Cut Pro, or iMovie. Now you can capture and edit your high-definition fotage from your new camcorder in Adobe Premiere Pro and even export to Blu-ray Disc or DVD with Encore CS4. NeoScene also extracts progressive frames from your footage to allow 24p or 25p editing, regardless of whether your footage was shot in progressive or interlace mode.
Hollywood producers rely on CineForm file formats for their editing and archive workflows because CineForm offers:
- the highest visual fidelity achievable, and
- the fastest real-time editing performance
You see, camera formats are designed for recording, not editing. With NeoScene you will convert your difficult-to-edit HDV, AVCHD, or Canon 5D Mk II camera footage to CineForm AVI or MOV files and then benefit from the same theatrical quality format and real-time editing performance as professionals.
The Coveted 24p Cinema Look
Feature films are shot and edited at 24 progressive frames per second (North America) or 25 (Europe / Japan) yielding the coveted "cinema look" you see in theaters. CineForm’s Neo Scene uniquely extracts 24p / 25p progressive frames from all your HDV or AVCHD material for editing in your favorite NLE. Your masterpiece will look like it is ready for the big screen - in fact, it is....

Details
NeoScene includes the following software components:
- CineForm codec for Windows or Mac
- NeoScene application
NeoHD Workflow Features
OS Compatibility: Separately purchased for Windows or Mac
Files created: 10-bit CineForm Intermediate (4:2:2) with either AVI (Windows) or MOV (Mac) wrapper.
Spatial resolution: Up to 1920x1080
HD camera support: HDV, AVCHD, Canon 5D Mk II
Chroma Interpolation: 4:2:0 ? 4:2:2. Background: Most HDV and AVCHD camcorders record chroma (color) in a format known as 4:2:0. Without boring you with details, 4:2:0 chroma is half the color resolution of more professional 4:2:2 formats. When Neo Scene detects 4:2:0 chroma it properly interpolates the source chroma to 4:2:2 for more accurate color processing during editing and effects work. And if you ever "key" your material, CineForm’s chroma interpolation will substantially improve your resulting visual fidelity.
NLE Compatibility:
- Windows: Adobe Premiere Elements, Adobe Premiere Pro CS3/CS4; Sony Vegas or Movie Studio
- Mac: Apple Final Cut Pro or iMovie
File Compatibility: Because CineForm files use industry-standard AVI or MOV wrappers they are compatible with virtually any video application that supports standard interfaces, including from Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, and Sony.
ProRes Support: Neo Scene will create ProRes files as the destination format if Final Cut Studio is installed on your Mac.
Image processing during conversion:
- telecine removal (24p extraction from 60i)
- deinterlacing (30p/25p from 60i/50i)
Importer: for Adobe CS4 on Windows (importer for CS4 on Mac later)
Sharing Media: CineForm offers a free decoder available for both Windows and Mac to allow you to easily share your CineForm media with others.

CineForm Neo Screne Workflow
Step 1
- HDV:
- Convert your M2T files stored on your hard drive to CineForm AVI/MOV files; OR
- Capture from tape (Windows only) while simultaneously converting to CineForm AVI files
- AVCHD: Convert your M2TS, MTS, or MP4 files to CineForm AVI (Windows) or MOV (Mac) files.
- Optional: For all conversions optionally convert your source material to 24 / 25 progressive frames for a professional cinema look.
Note1: During conversion, CineForm doubles the chroma (color) accuracy of the source files for improved color accuracy and chroma keying. (HDV and AVCHD cameras record in a color-reduced format known as 4:2:0 that CineForm restores to professional 4:2:2 chroma.)
Note2: CineForm AVI files will be larger than your source camera files. Why? CineForm AVI files maintain much higher visual quality and higher editing performance than camera source files. To allow this extra performance, CineForm AVI files are larger than camera source files.
Step 2
- Edit your CineForm AVI/MOV files with your preferred editor. In particular, CineForm files will edit much faster (lower compute load) than AVCHD camera files.
Step 3
- Export your final project to your preferred format for Blu-Ray, DVD, Web, or Streaming distribution. Archive your CineForm project as your source master.
System Recommendations
Operating System:
- Windows: XP SP2 or XP 64; Vista SP1 or Vista 64 SP1
- Mac: Mac OS 10.5 or greater
Hardware Requirements:
- Windows: Most Any HW recommended for your NLE is compatible with CineForm files.
- Mac: Intel Mac only
Media Storage Recommendation:
- For best performance, CineForm recommends storing HD video files on a separate hard drive from your OS.
