Our DIY3 project is finally complete. “Double Trouble” was our first Dual Processor system. Unlike the previous two projects, this one was far more difficult. It was very hard finding a motherboard that all our vendors liked and that also included the latest PCI Express technology. As you will recall from our DIY2 article, PCI Express (PCIe) is the new high-speed bus that removes the bottlenecks that would happen with the old PCI/AGP bus design. (

This past year will go down as the year that HDV emerged. Back in April, at NAB, attendees got their first glance at the future - Sony's HDV camcorder. It was on display in a glass case and it wasn't actually working, but it generated a ton of excitement. DV Expo has become one of the more important shows in the industry. It's a great opportunity for end users to get the chance to see the current landscape of digital videography. You can sit in any of the major vendors presentation theatres and watch slick product demos complete with bad jokes and free T-shirts. Then mosey on over to the Sony, Canon, Panasonic & JVC booths and check out the latest generation of camcorders. While the show had good attendance, the crowds were not that bad. Later in (
