It's hard to believe another year has gone by. I think 2009 was one of the most challenging years for our industry. The troubled US economy created budget problems for videographers, video editors and producers on every level. In today's economy every Penney counts and before we invest in new technology, we have to be sure of the benefits.

If you are reading this article, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that you have a big screen HD TV in your house. Now that you have it, you wonder how you ever watched sports or the latest action movie or a documentary or even the cooking channel without it. I know that now when I watch standard definition TV, all I can think about is how much better it would look in HD! Lets face it, everything just looks better in HD. As usual Adobe had a very big presence at NAB, with round the clock demos of their CS4 product line. Those are all well done and interesting, but what grabs my attention every year is the technology demonstrations. At NAB2008 Adobe was showing off speech recognition technology that was then integrated into Premiere Pro & On Location CS4. ( Read More)

One of the things I like best about NAB is the chance to see all the new hardware coming down the road for video editing and production. Over the past few years computers have become so powerful that we can edit DV footage extremely well with just software alone. With the move to HD the software can handle the footage, but it takes some extra hardware to get the job done right. This year's NAB was a very exciting show. At last year's show we got our first glimpse of HDV and the HD revolution. At this year's show HDV was everywhere – including several new professional HD camcorders that sell for well under $10,000!! ( Read More)
