1999 was the best year yet for amazing new desk top video products. In 1999 DV became the dominant format for DTV. Of the 12 hardware products featured in this article, ten are DV and the remaining two have DV options.
As 1999 came to a close two new very hot technologies have emerged: affordable Real-time dual stream editing and MPEG2 compression. (

At the DV Expo major new products were introduced for desktop video editing. Unfortunately not all the products mentioned in this article are shipping. The Canopus Rex RT & DPS Velocity 2D are now shipping. Hopefully by Thanksgiving they will all be readily available. In addition to seeing them at the show, I had the chance to play with all these hot new products in private demo sessions and beta tests. (

1998 was a banner year for revolutionary new desk top video editing products. The DV Expo (Oct 13-16, Pasadena CA) was a very informative and exciting show. I strongly recommend that digital videographers and content creators put the '99 DV Expo in their plans. The seminars and conferences were well done and the presenters were both knowledgeable and interesting to watch. The exposition was extremely focused and the atmosphere on the floor was electric! 1997 has been a fantastic year for new DTV products. I have been using, testing and reviewing DTV products for almost 2 years now. I can’t believe how far we’ve come in such a short time.
