It's easier and less expensive than you think!!
When we began publishing this article over 5 years ago, the world of video was much more limited. DV Camcorders were over a thousand bucks (analog VHS and Hi8/8mm cams had just hit the under $500 level) and although you could shoot in several formats, the end result was almost always the same - producing a VHS tape that you could watch. we are constantly updating and tweaking our recommendations, based on the very latest technology and industry news. We realize that our current DIY8 build is getting a little long in the tooth, and that many of you are chomping at the bit to go with the very latest Sandy Bridge chips from Intel. We have been following Sandy Bridge very closely, and while there is some great price/performance in it, we still have concerns.

While Apple may have stolen a lot of the buzz from NAB with their Sneak Peak of Final Cut Pro X at the FCPUG Supermeet, that didn’t mean that the rest of the industry sat quietly on the sidelines. Avid, Adobe, Grass Valley and others all had their own updates to talk about. Last week Avid announced that they would be releasing and shipping the newest version of Media Composer on March 8th - a full month before NAB! This is very exciting news and it created a flury of tweets, blog posts and discussions in user groups and forums. At last years NAB, Avid announced Media Composer 5, and it was he hit of the show. It's hard to believe another year has gone by. I think 2009 was one of the most challenging years for our industry. The troubled US economy created budget problems for videographers, video editors and producers on every level. In today's economy every Penney counts and before we invest in new technology, we have to be sure of the benefits.

Inexpensive Consumer Video Editing programs like Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Apple iMovie, Windows MovieMaker are easy and fun to use. In fact, I think they are pretty amazing. While these products can be purchased for less then one hundred dollars they deliver a level of performance and features that would have cost 10 times as much just 5 years ago! Its official – Videoguys now recommends Windows Vista 64 for your video editing workstation!
We've been warning our customers to stay away from Vista for quite some time, and we still do not recommend the 32-bit version because the operating requires a lot of RAM for reliable operation and that's one of the greatest advantages of Vista 64. ( Read More)
