Not everyone loves the hustle and bustle of conferences. If you are an introvert that's more comfortable in an edit suite than on the trade show floor, don't despair. I've found a way to go to these events, enjoy myself, and win.

Video is, at heart, a highly artificial art form. Sure, a finished video looks natural, perhaps flowing so smoothly that even an experienced video creator finds him or herself starting to believe that the events on screen must have happened exactly as presented. Let's face it; there's nothing very sexy about rendering your video and audio projects. Everyone hates the render step, but everyone also recognizes that they can't get far with delivering their project without out it. So, like it or not, there has to be a render step. You know why filmmakers and videographers always say “We’ll fix it in post“? Because there are some problems that you can’t avoid no matter how many years of experience you have behind the camera.

Scott was just finishing up a three week edit using Avid Media Composer. He enjoys longer-form projects like this one as he always find himself learning something new about the non-linear editing tool that he's using for that extended period of time. Most all of the tools we use in post-production are quite full featured. They’ve been updated over many years with features added along the way. Avid Media Composer is one of the most full featured of the non-linear editors out there. I’ve had several occasion where I’ve been working with other MC users and they ask “how’d you do that?” Or “what was that button?” On the flip side I’ve been working around other editors and I learn something entirely new myself. Richard Harrington got a great tip from a friend... You can work natively in Final Cut Pro X. You just need to change some settings to overcome its desire to eat up disc space. Start by launching Final Cut Pro X. Be sure to keep an eye out for Abba Shapiro's forthcoming title.
Playback Settings
You need to adjust how media is played back as well as rendered.
