For the past number of years I have been working on a Mac Pro, with two 23" Apple Cinema Displays, running Legacy versions of FCP. I had added a Matrox MXO box, which went between my monitor card and my second ACD to provide Broadcast Monitoring so that I could view my video output. Hitting the Command F-12 keys would toggle the second monitor between a standard Mac Desktop and a Broadcast Monitor. Matrox debuted Matrox MicroQuad, a four channel SDI-to-MDMI multi-viewer for $995 and an adapter to expand the Mac workspace for $179. If you’ve been following along the past few months, you know we’re testing a very nice Dell Workstation as we plan the immediate future of our company and what computers might replace all the Mac Pros we currently run. Since we’re an Adobe / Avid centric shop now, the Dell shows us how we might work in a cross platform world.

Robert Legato has been nominated for the 2012 Academy Awards in the Visual Effects category for his latest work on the movie Hugo. This is his third Academy Award nomination. Working as a one-person team, a staff member from MSNBC.COM offices in NY or Washington, shoots, produces, and edits video in the field. Each producer is equipped with a Mac laptop loaded with Avid Media Composer 5.5 editing software, connected to a Matrox MXO2 Mini MAX I/O box with built-in Thunderbolt connectivity. Beta release 3.0.1 for Matrox MXO2 I/O devices and the new Matrox Mojito MAX card is now available on our user forum. This software update adds broadcast monitoring support with the recent Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 update. Broadcast monitoring in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 allows video and audio output to a variety of external monitors and other equipment using the SDI, HDMI or analog video outputs from Matrox products (Read More)
