While Apple may have stolen a lot of the buzz from NAB with their Sneak Peak of Final Cut Pro X at the FCPUG Supermeet, that didn’t mean that the rest of the industry sat quietly on the sidelines. Sony is set to display at NAB a suite of targeted, feature-rich cameras based on its latest CMOS imaging technology. New HDCAM-SR decks and OLED monitors complete this high-res picture. I saw most of this new gear earlier this month during demos for a small group of press at Sony's engineering and manufacturing plants outside Tokyo and farther south on the island of Kyushu. I’m going to do something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I am going to highly recommend a program that runs only on Windows. In fact, I am going to recommend a program that’s so good, I bought an HP laptop running Windows 7 JUST so I could run Sony VEGAS’ Professional NLE. Nobody is more shocked than me. ( Read More)

2010 was one of those years that I think we will look back at as a key turning point in our industry. While HD camcorders have been around for 5 years, it was in 2010 that we hit the tipping point that made HD editing a reality for everyone. Many professional videographers migrated to HD years ago with an HDV camcorder that delivered great looking footage. The resolution was there, but the camcorders lacked the optics and focal controls, and flexibility, to make your video look like something sh ( Read More)
