With last year's introduction of the Thunderbolt interface, the mobile editing workstation really came into its own. Some observers speculated that the super-high-speed jack, which makes incredibly powerful peripherals truly portable, was a signal of the impending demise of the decidedly non-portable Mac Pro tower.

I needed to buy more storage for my editing system – as if needing more storage for video editing is a surprise or something…
Anyway, I decided that since one of my editing systems supports Thunderbolt, I would buy a Thunderbolt RAID. Except the only ones on the market seemed to be from Promise Technology. ( Read More)

As we have amply covered in multiple articles in ProVideo Coalition magazine, demanding online editing of multiple realtime HD video layers requires a high bandwidth connection to an external disk array, especially in the tapeless acquisition era, when it is even more desirable to use RAID5 (or equivalent). The Studio V interfaces to Mac or PC via a single eSata or USB 2 cable. For SATA operation, all that would be required is a PCIe SATA card (two-port cards run under $200) or a computer with an internal SATA port. A little known fact, for example, is that the MacPros have one unused SATA port on the logic board. EZQuest bundles with this unit an internal jumper cable with connectors and slot interface.
