Walter Biscardi put the inaugural meeting of the Atlanta Cutters together in three weeks from scratch. He lined up demos of the top NLE's and more for the packed house.

For all the scientific discoveries we’ve made in the past few decades, it’s surprising how many mysteries there are still left to solve. What’s the smallest sub-atomic particle? What are the limits of the human brain? Are there parallel universes similar to ours and if so, how do we prove it? I can clearly remember my first experience with Adobe Premiere. It was in the early 1990’s, and I was working full-time in the News Department at Wisconsin Public Television. I had managed to talk the news director into buying me a really new-fangled device – a desktop computer. I believe it was a first-generation Pentium, maybe 90Mhz. Well Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 has arrived, and has really upped the ante on performance… blowing the competition out of the water. Like a lot of the other products in the CS5 line, the big deal is that Premiere Pro is now 64 bit only. Of course this means you'll need a 64 bit processor, and 64 bit version of Windows or Mac OS to run it. This may be a downside for some folks out there, but for others, it's the first non-linear editing software to really make use of your computer's full potential. ( Read More)

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 ($799 list new, $299–$699 list upgrade) may not look much different from previous versions, but don't let appearances fool you. As with all the Creative Suite 5 applications, much has been changed, tweaked, and optimized under the hood to make Adobe's professional-targeted film- and video-editing application (along with its companion programs, OnLocation and Encore) more useful than ever. CS5 is among Adobe's most significant upgrades to the Production Premium bundle ever.
As video editors, we have patiently waited (and waited and waited) for tools that are as quick as our clicks and keystrokes. But performance gains in past versions of Adobe's Creative Suite have been mostly incremental. In this short video, I'll show you how to use the new Ultra Keyer in Premiere Pro CS5 to pull quick keys from your footage, even with unevenly lit green screen. Like many members of the press, I've been working with beta software for about three months, and I am very familiar with the additions to Premiere Pro, OnLocation, Media Encoder, and a couple of ancillary programs, which I'll detail here. Adobe has succesfully generated a hype leading up to the launch of Creative Suite 5. Through various sites fragments were’leaked’. This created the so called buzz that was picked up and redistributed by the social networks.

If I were to take a long-term view of the successive Creative Suite (CS) releases from San Jose, Calif.-based Adobe Systems, I would equate them to a product created a bit further north in Napa Valley. As you may recall, for most Windows-based users, CS3 was a bit thin—Mac compatibility was the most prominent new feature.
