Io XT Provides Complete Video/Audio Capture and Playback in a Feature-Rich, Portable Device

Io XT connects to a Thunderbolt enabled Apple computer via a single cable. An additional Thunderbolt port is provided, allowing daisy-chaining to other Thunderbolt peripherals like high bandwidth storage and high-resolution displays through a single interface; simplifying the connection of multiple devices and creating a very portable package. In addition to the wide range of supported capture and pla (Read More)

Remember all the brouhaha that erupted just a week or so before the NAB 2011 FCPUG SuperMeet when Apple took over the event to preview Final Cut Pro X, thereby kicking out all the other presenters who had planned their own demos and paid for sponsorships? Here we are six months later and it’s time for another SuperMeet, this time scheduled for September 11 at the The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam during IBC. (Read More)

There are about 85 emails in my in-box this morning with links to a speech I gave at the April Final Cut Pro User Group about my reactions to Apple’s presentation of Final Cut at NAB.

While I stand by most of my remarks, there was one unfortunate moment where I said, with a special dramatic emphasis for the crowd, that Final Cut Pro X was not ready for professional use. (Read More)

First off Final Cut Pro X is a new application. It is not an update to FCP 7. I think that many, including me, will continue to use FCP 7 along with FCP X after FCP X arrives. I hope that there is a workflow between FCP 7 and FCP X. (Read More)

May 5th, 2011 comment 2 comments NAB 2011: More GPUs, Improved Controls Mark Premiere Pro CS5.5 Posted By Clint Milby On Monday at NAB, the amazing people at Adobe arranged for me to meet with the project manager for Premiere CS5.5, Al Mooney, who very graciously took some time to enlighten me on what people can expect from this upgrade. I was a bit skeptical going into the interview, as many times software upgrades that involve decimal points are repackaged versions of the previous one, (Read More)

The biggest buzz at NAB by far has been the anticipation of Apple’s sneak peek at Final Cut X. Nobody seemed to care about the missing Final Cut Pro 8 or 9 as they camped outside the Super Meet for hours trying to get their place in line or buying or selling tickets. It certainly seemed more and more like a Bruce Springsteen concert than a computer user group meeting, with scalpers trying to get $100 for the sold-out show. (Read More)

One of the biggest topics at NAB 2011 was the arrival of Thunderbolt, a new I/O technology that offers lightning fast data transfers when working with high-resolution displays and/or data devices through a single port and cable. At the present time, Thunderbolt is only available on the latest MacBook Pro (as well as the just announced iMac), which brings dual and quad Core processors and high performance graphics. Because of the simplicity and super speed of Thunderbolt, you’ll now be able to e (Read More)

One of the biggest and brightest new technologies on the horizon for video editing and post production is the new Thunderbolt I/O technology developed by Intel and first released by Apple on the new MacBook Pros. While Apple may have stolen a lot of the buzz from NAB with their Sneak Peak of Final Cut Pro X at the FCPUG Supermeet, that didn’t mean that the rest of the industry sat quietly on the sidelines. Avid, Adobe, Grass Valley and others all had their own updates to talk about. In fact, it looks like we’re entering the first stage of a war for marketshare among the three Big “A”s of editing, Apple, Adobe and Avid. While Apple fired the first shot with their FCPX Sneak Peak, Avid and Adobe still hav (Read More)

I know NAB 2011 has been over for more than a week now already, but I’m busy traveling across the US and therefore had little chance to keep you guys posted. Apart from meeting all these amazing people – and that’s what it really was about – let’s dive right in and have a look at the major product that was introduced while this year’s show was taking place – Apple’s unveiling of their all-new Final Cut Pro X editing software. I've just returned from the tenth anniversary Final Cut Pro Supermeet, that raucous, always entertaining and informative gathering of Final Cut Pro users held as an evening event during NAB. This year, in front of some 1400 attendees, Apple chose to announce its forthcoming update, Final Cut Pro X. Billed as a "sneak peek," this hour-long demo began with the obligatory history of FCP, its ground-breaking features and impressive list of users in every production realm from documentary to indie to (Read More)

One of the big stories leading up to NAB2011 was the rumor that Apple had taken over the FCPUG SuperMeet and that they would be showing a sneak peak of the new Final Cut Pro X. Apple didn’t just take over the SuperMeet, they took over NAB. You could not go to a booth or have a meeting without people talking about FCP X. There was a lot of speculation over what would be announced and what exciting news Apple had up their sleeve. (Read More)

I landed my first job in post-production in 2003 at a small house which used Avid exclusively. It had plenty of problems; we struggled with the Dragon error for a few months, converted to Xpress Pro when it came out, and then wrestled with that. There just weren't any other options. And then Apple's Final Cut Pro was released, although it too had some problems. But when Avid stopped listening to their customers and became more and more inflexible, Final Cut Pro became an increasingly attractive (Read More)
