The workflow of today centers on tapeless acquisition. Yet we must remember that it was Focus Enhancements—through its FireStore Direct To Edit products—that led the way to tapeless acquisition even when everyone was exclusively shooting tape.

Not long after NAB 2009, I received an email announcing the FSH-200, the first Focus Enhancements product to lose the spinning disc and replace it with flash memory. The FSH-200 is physically identical to the FS-5 with one important exception: There is a slot on the right side to accept the Compact Flash card that replaces the hard disk. ( Read More)

I first set eyes upon the Focus Enhancement FS-5 Digital Hard Disk recorder at the IOV AGM. It did look very different to the previous versions and it supposedly does a lot more. Eventually I received the machine from the UK distributors, Holdan Ltd, together with a USB Wireless Dongle. ( Read More)

Focus Enhancements has been hitting the ball out of the park with hard drive recorders for several years now, and the big brains there have just made another leap. Enter the FS-H200, which at first glance looks like an FS-5 hard disc recorder. However, when you turn it on it’s side, you will find a Compact Flash slot instead of an internal hard drive. This will probably go down as one of our most successful NAB shows ever! We've picked up several new lines, the most significant one I can tell you about is AJA, but we will have more exciting news to share with you as the spring heads into summer. We also saw the launch of a new product line-up form Matrox, giving them affordable HD I/O devices at every price/ user level. Sony announced a new version of Vegas Pro (version 9), but the even bigger news was Vegas getting more attention and support ( Read More)

We had an unexpected surprise last week when Mark D’Addio from Focus Enhancements dropped in to give us a special sneak peak look at the new FS-5 version 2. WOW! Many times we get to see a new technology come along that takes an already existing product to the next level. FS-5 Version 2 is a perfect example of this.
