It only happens every 2 years or so that Apple releases a major upgrade to its professional suite of post-production software. Now Final Cut Studio 3 is unveiled, and at the core is Final Cut Pro 7. By now you've heard that there's a new version of Final Cut Studio shipping from Apple, aptly called "the New Final Cut Studio." What's new? Well, it starts with a new price of $999, $300 less than Final Cut Studio 2. You can upgrade to the new suite from any previous version, even Final Cut Pro 1.0, for $299. Apple has been listening to its customers. This release directly addresses some of the workflow issues of the past, while adding robust enhancements and maintaining the terrific functionality and interface of the original app. It’s a ridiculous value with a ton of bang for the buck. It will make life easier—and much more fun—for a lot of editors. (Read More)

I had some time over the weekend to kick the tires on FCP 7 there are some very nice features that have been added to this release. The true test will come when I install at the office and pound it hard for days on end (which won’t be for a while as I won’t be between projects for a couple of weeks) but for the little project I’m working on at home it’s working well thus far. Here’s an early observation on some select features where I was able to kick the tires. (Read More)
