Inexpensive Consumer Video Editing programs like Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Apple iMovie, Windows MovieMaker are easy and fun to use. In fact, I think they are pretty amazing. While these products can be purchased for less then one hundred dollars they deliver a level of performance and features that would have cost 10 times as much just 5 years ago! While these products allow you to edit your video, create slideshows, author DVDs and export them to the we (Read More)

If you’ve only ever edited on Final Cut Pro and are curious about what some of the main differences in the two applications are then this is a good place to start. The Avid2FCP Changeover Challenge is another though going in the other direction (see, we’re fair and balanced at the Editblog!). And since Avid Media Composer is available as a free 14-day demo then you’ve got nothing to lose except some time. I hope you find the article useful. (Read More)

I’ve been an editor for a while now at several different shops. Through those days and places I have mostly been self taught until I ended up here with SuiteTake. At SuiteTake training and skill development is not just encouraged, it’s part of our daily responsibilities. Therefor, in the recent past my learning curve has increased dramatically. (Read More)

Mac editors keep waiting for good news from Apple about Blu-ray Authoring and support. This past week at the WWDC conference Apple made many exciting announcements, but unfortunately Final Cut Studio 3 (with or without Blu-ray support) was not one of them.

As always, the Videoguys have the solution for you! We worked with Roxio and Pioneer to put together several bundles that allow you to edit with Final Cut Studio 2 and deliver your final production to Blu-ray disc using the Pioneer BDR- (Read More)

As we move into NAB time (the show starts Saturday), it seems to me that the Apple/Avid competitive landscape has shifted significantly. Final Cut hasn’t delivered a major upgrade in two years and won’t have a booth in Vegas. But Avid has been busy modernizing their feature set and doing serious work on reliability and performance. Some time has passed since the MXO2 shipped in 2008 enough time for people who were a little hesitant about Matrox coming back to the Mac with some new offerings to really test the waters with the MXO and now the MXO2. I can say that it is truly a well rounded I/O device and I will spare alot of you with the full run down of specs because that can all be found at the main site for the MXO2 HERE. (Read More)

The best part of the MXO2 is the price. I can’t think of another portable or desktop unit that delivers what it does for $1,595. There are more expensive options in the marketplace, and if you need real-time HD ProRes 4:2:2 capture in the field, the MXO2 may not be for you. But it meets my needs, not just in terms of price and features but, most importantly, in terms of its quality, stability and dependability. (Read More)
