Matrox® Video Products Group today announced that release 1.61 for Matrox MXO22, Matrox MXO2 Rack3, Matrox MXO2 Mini4, and Matrox CompressHD5 is now available as a free download from the Matrox website to all registered users. The Matrox products will be demonstrated at IBC 2009 on stand 7.B29. This release implements support for the new Final Cut Studio including Final Cut Pro 7 with Apple's new ProRes 422 (LT), ProRes 422 (Proxy) formats and Compressor 3.5. ( Read More)

CompressHD costs $495 and is based upon a chip from ASIC vendor Ambarella. Matrox started shipping CompressHD for the Mac soon after NAB Show 2009, but version 1.6 of the software debuts support for Apple Final Cut Pro 7 and Compressor 3.5. ( Read More)

Should you upgrade to Final Cut Pro 7, or buy new (found in the third version of Final Cut Studio)? A resounding yes! There are plenty of great new features that make it worthwhile to upgrade, and I highly recommend you do it. Plus, the price on FCS has dropped to $999 (USD) and upgrade pricing has dropped to $299. Besides, with 50% of the NLE (non-linear editor) software market, according to the SCRI (http://www.scri.com/), it's a great time to upgrade or jump onboard! ( Read More)

With the release of Final Cut Pro 7 things have changed. FCP 7 is now Blu-ray enabled and using the new 'Share' function we can create Blu-ray content and burn to an external (third party) Blu-ray burner. While the authoring abilities of Blu-ray in FCP 7 'Share' are very limited, only a 'Main menu' and 'Chapter Menu', early reports are the the process works and is stable. ( Read More)

Apple has been listening to its customers. This release directly addresses some of the workflow issues of the past, while adding robust enhancements and maintaining the terrific functionality and interface of the original app. It’s a ridiculous value with a ton of bang for the buck.
