How much faster is Final Cut Pro on the new 2.2GHz i7 MacBook Pros?

We wish we hadn't seen this video. It gives us another reason to want to rush out and buy a new 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro, if Thunderbolt wasn't enough!  We will post the rendering speed results after the break, but I urge you to watch one of the most elegant bench tests going.

If you've just hit the 'read more' without watching the video then you've missed a treat, however if you want the hard facts then here we go:

The two models tested, the new Apple 17'' MacBook Pro 2011 (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7) and a one year old Apple 17'' MacBook Pro (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). The test, rendering a 3 way colour filter on a ProRes 422 clip 1920 x 1080 29.97 fps.

The result (Well the poster frame gave the game away slightly)

Ok standby for this: 13:58 on the old model, 3:46 on the new model. This works out at a whopping 3.7 times faster!!!!  (Hides credit cards) We have no idea how the test was carried out, what bearing the graphics card has on the result, but you have to admit it is a fairly impressive speed gain. Also interesting is the Compressor & 4K test.

This is with FCP7 as well :)
