The workflow of today centers on tapeless acquisition. Yet we must remember that it was Focus Enhancements—through its FireStore Direct To Edit products—that led the way to tapeless acquisition even when everyone was exclusively shooting tape.
In short, the FSH units are wonderful devices for a format that is being superseded. The FS-H200 and FS-H200 Pro should be part of any HDV shooter's toolkit. For the $300 difference, the Pro adds some nice features, but even the $895 original unit pro (Read More)

Not long after NAB 2009, I received an email announcing the FSH-200, the first Focus Enhancements product to lose the spinning disc and replace it with flash memory. The FSH-200 is physically identical to the FS-5 with one important exception: There is a slot on the right side to accept the Compact Flash card that replaces the hard disk. ( Read More)

Focus Enhancements has been hitting the ball out of the park with hard drive recorders for several years now, and the big brains there have just made another leap. Using HV and HDV’s 13-gigs-per-hour data rate, it’s an easy calculation that a 16Gb compact flash card will record over an hour of footage, and ( Read More)

Direct To Drive: This portable HD video recorder offers a few surprises. For those who are not up on all of the acronyms, DTE means “Direct To Edit,” a Focus Enhancements registered trademark. The Focus Enhancements FS-5 is a disk drive that captures video from HDV or DV cameras and can then be plugged directly into an NLE for editing. ( Read More)

We had the chance to get a sneak peak at the new FS-5 version 2 software just before NAB. The FS-5 captures your footage while you shoot in either DV or HDV. Using D.T.E. (Direct To Edit) technology the footage is captured into the format that your NLE application works with best. Regardless of the format you choose the video plays back perfectly on the LCD screen - smooth, crisp and clear. With an iPod Touch and wireless network adapter you are able to control the video (play, pause rewind etc. ( Read More)
