To faithfully translate Gilbert’s journey from page to screen, the filmmakers lobbied to shoot the movie entirely on location in chronological order. And after nine months of intense scouting and preproduction planning, Murphy led 40 cast and crew members — including Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson — on a four-and-a-half month rolling production effort that generated 422,000 feet of film, or roughly 70 hours of footage. Now, I don’t say this to be inflammatory – far from it. As a professional user in the truest sense, I eat, sleep and breathe things like this. I work in an industry that simply requires the use of a Mac… no ifs, ands or buts. No Windows, no Linux, no hackintoshes, no excuses. To the millions that love their Macs, it’s an e ( Read More)

Complex and confounding to some, using Apple Color cries out for expert training, and Class on Demand tackles the task.
Class on Demand’s latest releases are easily among their most challenging: Nine hours of training spanning two discs, aimed at unraveling the mysteries of Apple Color — by far the most complicated (and often overlooked) component of Final Cut Studio. Since life has been far too quiet lately, I decided to tackle this subject, but from the perspective of the totally new user, not the experienced user who would rather fight than switch. In other words, what would you say if a total newbie asked, "Which should I use, FCS 3 or Adobe CS5?" ( Read More)

As a video editor who started in the days of linear suites, tactile control surfaces are near and dear to my heart. It’s one of the things I miss in the modern nonlinear edit suite. Euphonix entered the market years ago as a manufacturer of large, digitally-controlled, analog mixing consoles. They are a leader today i ( Read More)

This unit was designed for use with Apple Color and has been welcomed by Color users to add another option to their hardware based control surface choices. Until the MC Color came along your choices were either one of the JL Cooper units or the more affordable Tangent Wave. At $1,499 the MC Color doesn’t break what I think is the magic $999 mark (magic in the sense that it will put a control surface ( Read More)
