Edit Geek by Dylan Reeve

Media Composer SoftwareMedia Composer 5 has been out for a while now… And since my initial impressions of it I’ve been thinking more about what it signals for the future of Avid in general and Media Composer specifically – about what I expect to see in the coming versions.

What follows is nothing more than my guesses and hopes – a wish-list of sorts… These are feature and changes I expect to see in Media Composer (and Symphony) 5.5 or 6.0 based on what I’ve observed over the last few years, and especially with the release of MC5.

  • Third-party I/O Support
With MC5 Avid broke with their tradition and added (limited) support for the Matrox MXO2 Mini. And around the same time there was speculation about a more hardware-agnostic future for Media Composer with an I/O SDK being made available to third-party hardware manufacturers.
