Here is one such story from Craig Mashburn at the Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas who is using our DIY8 project as his guideline for a new editing workstation. Cris is the person responsible for the church's technology, audio and video and I am looking forward to reading his upcoming posts on how his system upgrade is going. Read More

Avid listens to their customers.
A few years ago Avid did something unprecedented in our industry that many editors may have forgotten about. They took their show on the road. It wasn't actually a road show as much as it was a chance for their top management to visit with post-houses, professional editors, indie film makers and user groups. They asked what Avid needed to fix and when they asked for honest feedback, they sure got it! What did Avid do with this information? They used Read More

I began editing professionally in 1997. It started with a Sony BVE-9100 linear system, hen migrated into the world of NLE systems beginning with D-Vision, which became the Discreet Edit. Moved on to Avid Media Composer in 1999 and also (somewhere in the 2000-2002 range) I had a brief stint with DPS Velocity. However, the Avid Media Composer system and I were pretty much tied at the hip from 1999 until 2007. Then Final Cut Pro came along. It was cheaper. I needed a full HD system. The deal was d Read More

Years ago I bought a Macintosh. It was blue, white, and had this new thing called a firewire port. And the software I bought to edit with? Adobe Premiere.

Lacking some of the bells and whistles of its pricier competitors, but Datavideo's DN-60 compact flash card recorder gets the job done at a fraction of the cost. If you've got an aging DV or HDV camcorder whose heads are beginning to fail, or perhaps you simply want to step into the digital age, but your older camera still delivers great footage, then strapping a direct-capture-device onto that prized piece of video history may be exactly what the geriatrician ordered.
