Roland, a company that I have a lot of experience with from my past, makes the R-44, a portable four-track digital audio recorder. I still own an antique Roland GR-300 guitar synthesizer that I bought back in the 1980s, and I used Roland keyboards and recording gear quite a bit back in the days when I dabbled in the recording studio. In my experience, Roland products always have been reliable and innovative, so I thought the R-44 would be worth checking out to see how it compares to the high-end Read More

It’s already helped me make a quick transition.

With the recent release of Final Cut Pro X from Apple, it became quickly apparent that my facility was not going to be able to adopt the new software from them. This coupled with the fact that Apple has completely slaughtered their line of pro apps, it was clear that Final Cut Pro in general was a thing of history for us. Read More

First things first, I (Jason Konoza) do not currently own an Apple computer. However, I’ve decided to now ’make the switch’ for my next editing computer to be a Mac product. After seeing the Final Cut Pro X preview at the NAB Supermeet this year, this seemed like a solid choice. Now, after 2 weeks of reading testimonials of FCPX, now I’m not so sure… Read More

Much has been said about what Final Cut Pro X does not do, and I agree that some key functionality has been omitted that Apple needs to address soon. However, there is a lot to like here as well, so I thought I’d point out some features that stand out to me as an editor of over 20 years that I’ve wanted for a long time. The majority of my projects I end up mixing myself directly in the NLE since I have a background in recording and mixing, thats why these new features are pretty cool to me. Read More

Like many others I have been eagerly hoping, waiting and anticipating a major upgrade of Final Cut Pro for about 12 months now. Am I a Pro Editor? Well, how do you define “Pro”? If you were to argue that editing is potentially an income source, then I suppose yes, I’d qualify. Other’s would argue I’m not “Pro” because I don’t edit for a living or my main source of income. Some would say I am definitely not “Pro” because I do not own Final Cut Studio. Quite frankly in my opinion it’s not impor Read More
