The recent Matrox Axio & RTX driver is working quite well with only a few minor issues for Windows users. We are highly recommending that Windows users upgrade to Vista64 (or Win7 64 when released) & 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Here is a PDF with information on using Matrox Axio and RTX with CS4 and identifies a few of these issues. Matrox is continuing to make improvements to their driver. Matrox® Video Products Group today announced that release 1.61 for Matrox MXO22, Matrox MXO2 Rack3, Matrox MXO2 Mini4, and Matrox CompressHD5 is now available as a free download from the Matrox website to all registered users. The Matrox products will be demonstrated at IBC 2009 on stand 7.B29. CompressHD costs $495 and is based upon a chip from ASIC vendor Ambarella. Matrox started shipping CompressHD for the Mac soon after NAB Show 2009, but version 1.6 of the software debuts support for Apple Final Cut Pro 7 and Compressor 3.5. Read More

With the release of Final Cut Pro 7 things have changed. FCP 7 is now Blu-ray enabled and using the new 'Share' function we can create Blu-ray content and burn to an external (third party) Blu-ray burner. While the authoring abilities of Blu-ray in FCP 7 'Share' are very limited, only a 'Main menu' and 'Chapter Menu', early reports are the the process works and is stable. Read More

I’d been running Squeeze 4.5 when I decided to upgrade to the Pro version of 5.1. I was pretty impressed with the differences in the upgrade. What’s new? Most importantly, in my opinion: workflow changes that really save a lot of time and effort, and that’s what makes this upgrade worth the cash. The coolest thing is the new Publishing presets and functionality, because the file usually has to get sent someplace after it’s compressed. Read More
