Shane started his blog in 2005, when he made my leap from editing on an Avid in standard definition…to editing with FCP in high definition…thus the name Little Frog in High Def (Little Frog being his Indian name from my youth). This blog was him talking about his foray into the world of HD specifically using Final Cut Pro…for broadcast TV shows. A diary of my successes and his failures…lessons he wanted to share so that people could learn from my…well, successes and failures. Read More

This will be the first part of a number of articles about a new system that needs to be built. It starts with the theory and in subsequent articles it will show the actual progress on the build. This series may go on for months, depending on market developments, technological developments and budget restraints. Hover the mouse over one of the topics below to expand it. A sincere Thank you to Bill Gehrke, Eric Bowen, Gary Bettan, Mitch Wood, Randall Leong and Todd Kopriva for helping me with t Read More

Thankfully (well... this depends upon who you ask) Apple dropped their Final Cut ball and Adobe swooped in to save the day. Now, I've only used FCP a little, mostly cuz I'm PC based and FCP never made a windows version. Read More

Our short and sweet blog post yesterday about switching to Avid MC6 for our broadcast work touched off a flurry of requests for yet more information on our decision. Folks want to know “what specific features did it have that the others didn’t.” “Can you break it down feature by feature, why you made the switch?” ”You seemed so gung-ho about Adobe early on in your switch.” Read More

Sorenson has launched Squeeze 8 Pro, the new version can now output ProRes files directly from within Avid. Codec specific add-ons available for existing customers. We have always said that they key to making money in broadcasting & video production is the ability to reversion or reuse media. With the NLE wars only getting hotter in the run up to NAB, Sorenson's new version of Squeeze might be another tool in becoming platform & timeline independent Read More

OK, it’s a provocative headline, and while Philip doesn’t for a minute think Avid are deliberately setting out to sell out editors, it may be an inevitable result of inevitable technological innovation. Read More

Today I had the opportunity to meet with Crucial and learn about their new Adrenaline product. I am very intrigued by this concept. I see it as being a potential homerun for video editors. Professional NLE apps like Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere take a while to open up. The more plug-ins. pre-sets and fonts you use, the longer it takes the host app to initially open. Talk to someone who uses Photoshop all the time and has tons of fonts, and they'll tell you the same thing. Creative fol Read More
