We love it when we hear that Videoguys' customers have been able to make good use of the information we provide. Here is one such story from Craig Mashburn at the Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas who is using our DIY8 project as his guideline for a new editing workstation. Cris is the person responsible for the church's technology, audio and video and I am looking forward to reading his upcoming posts on how his system upgrade is going. Read More

Avid listens to their customers.
A few years ago Avid did something unprecedented in our industry that many editors may have forgotten about. They took their show on the road. It wasn't actually a road show as much as it was a chance for their top management to visit with post-houses, professional editors, indie film makers and user groups. They asked what Avid needed to fix and when they asked for honest feedback, they sure got it! What did Avid do with this information? They used Read More

Q: What are the latest trends you're seeing in production and post production?
A: The biggest trend in Post Production is the decision that many Apple Final Cut Pro editors are faced with, now that FCPX is available. We are spending a lot of time talking to our customers about the many options available to them. Adobe and Avid are both offering special "switcher" or "crossgrade" promotions with discounts at 50% or more. We've seen great interest from all levels of customer’s especially po Read More

The day has finally come where someone like me — who is always trying to expand his editing skills — no longer has to purchase a used Avid Adrenaline and an old version of Media Composer to really learn the Avid Media Composer suite.

Avid, AJA and Matrox have come together to embrace Media Composer’s newly developed third-party hardware support. AJA’s involvement, announced at NAB, is the IO Express — a powerful input, output and monitoring solution. Read More

It's been five months since Thunderbolt technology arrived on the scene with the latest MacBook Pro refresh. At the time, not many devices were available to make use of the speedy new I/O connection. Since then, the new port has now appeared on new MacBook Airs, iMacs and Mac minis, and with that, the quantity of Thunderbolt-capable devices has improved as well! While some devices and accessories may not be available just yet, many should be arriving shortly. We highlight a handful that could he Read More

Over the past few months we've taken some heat on some NLE user forums for our recommendation to NOT use Sandy Bridge CPUs for building your NLE workstation. We didn't take this lightly and we understood the frustration it would create for people wanting to build a new NLE workstation. You want to use the latest technology and take advantage of the speed and performance per dollar of the Sandy bridge CPUs.

Our Sandy Bridge concerns where not about the CPU, but rather the available chipsets Read More
