I recently acquired a Matrox MXO2 Mini to use on my system. Mainly for use with the new Avid Media Composer 5.0 for monitoring, but I got the MAX version to help speed up H.264 encoding. I do a LOT of that for client approvals. Yes, I still have the big boy, the MXO2. But when I boot to my Avid partition, I swap a couple cables (control cable and HDMI) to my MXO2 Mini. To have access to Compressor on my Avid partition, and to have access to a few FCP codecs like DVCPRO HD, XDCAM EX and HDV, Read More

Now, once you hit play, there is no lag, no stuttering just crystal clear HD video playing in sync with your timeline. I really don't know what else I can say. The MXO2 mini was awesome, and the unit worked like a charm, and now with support for Adobe's CS5 , as well as Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro and Color), this unit is one that any editor working in HD that doesn't have a way to monitor their footage on an external source NEEDS to check out. I couldn't find one performance problem wit Read More

An issue with DSLR cameras that you must consider while setting up your rig is audio quality. DSLR cameras are equipped with just the most basic microphone and the sound is just okay, at best. If your talent is more than 6 feet away from the camera your audio quality will diminish quickly. Fortunately, the Canon DSLR cameras are all equipped with a mini-jack microphone input and we recommend adding a stereo microphone like the Azden SMX-10. Read More

For your consideration: a slick little box that captures HD and SD video, and outputs video in just as many formats. Unequivocal success, you would say? Certainly is - and even better, it can also perform faster-than-real-time H.264 compression operations through hardware. Knowledge is power when selecting any kind of video capture device, and Matrox has a great amount of background in this field, dating back to their original RT.X family of capture devices. Read More

Imagine setting up a mobile broadcast studio in less time than it takes to stand in line for a soda and popcorn at the theatre. No doubt!
