April 2012 update - now with FOUR recommended builds! Thanks to the release of the Intel i7 3820 Quad Core processor, we now have a DIY9 budget build! You can mix & match components between the three DIY9 P9X79 builds (Hot Rod vs Videoguys' Choice vs Budget). For those on a tight budget our DIY8 Sandy Bridge system based on the P8Z68 and i7 2600K processor is still fine choice, but I recommend finding the extra bucks to build our DIY9 budget machine, which comes in at just over $1500! For our Vi Read More

In Tor's opinion, Apple prematurely released Final Cut Pro X this past June. That’s pretty much why he didn’t opt to review it for Post until now. It just wasn’t ready for prime time. Nor was the professional post market ready to downgrade from Final Cut Pro 7. All that has changed in just a few months, especially with the release of Version 10.0.3. Now with downloadable updates from the App Store, it seems clear that Apple will be making constant improvements to the functionality of the softw Read More

Our first blogger/filmmaker is Robin Schmidt. He is a great filmmaker, writer, and musician. His current personal project is a YouTube series called “Stenderz“, a weekly parody music video recapping that weeks episode of EastEnders, a soap opera on BBC One. I still have no idea what Eastenders is but I LOVE Stenderz, and look forward to seeing the how they pull of great productions every single week. Episode 9, The Katy Perry One went online last week and is arguably better than the original mus Read More

Today I had the opportunity to meet with Crucial and learn about their new Adrenaline product. I am very intrigued by this concept. I see it as being a potential homerun for video editors. Professional NLE apps like Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere take a while to open up. The more plug-ins. pre-sets and fonts you use, the longer it takes the host app to initially open. Talk to someone who uses Photoshop all the time and has tons of fonts, and they'll tell you the same thing. Creative fol Read More

Now, Avid being Avid, the situation on Media Composer hasn’t been so easy. It was kind of driving me crazy as I spent much of the past year cutting on Avid again after a long time doing FCP job after FCP job. Every few weeks I’d troll the internet again looking for a way to do this; I’d re-read the Avid manuals and stare at all the menu options again and again to see what I’d missed. Media Composer 5.5 supports a few control surfaces – the Command | 8 , Euphonix Artist series, another Digidesign Read More

“We are a band and enjoy playing, so I wouldn’t want the technology to slow us down or get in the way of our creativity. That’s what I love about the EDIUS system. It’s easy to use and allows me to work very fast. Then I can get back to playing music.”

Let's face it; there's nothing very sexy about rendering your video and audio projects. Everyone hates the render step, but everyone also recognizes that they can't get far with delivering their project without out it. So, like it or not, there has to be a render step. That's the unfortunate news. The good news is that the new Render As dialog box in Vegas Pro 11 makes the process a bit more pleasant than it was in earlier versions of the application. The new dialog box offers several improvemen Read More
