In 2006, Avid liberated its flagship Media Composer from its hardware host and offered the widely popular editing platform in a software-only version. The company has faced fierce competition from other popular editing platforms, and has responded by steadily ramping up the capabilities and features of Media Composer. With its second major upgrade, Avid has repositioned itself as a cutting-edge innovator of digital editing technology with more competitive prices.

Now that the word is out - April 12th is the big day when ALL of CS5 will be announced, I'm seeing a lot of misinformation on Twitter over what's necessary to take advantage of Premiere Pro CS5 and the Mercury Playback Engine:

    1. It won't run on laptops. FALSE I'm running it today on my MacBook Pro, and taking full advantage of 64-bit goodness and multicore optimization. Even though there's not a supported GPU in my MacBook, the performance gains over CS4 and CS3 are very significant. In m Read More

Legal videographers need to make high quality A/V recordings and archive safety copies of them for 60 to 90 days. Deposition videos are usually recorded and delivered on DVD and backed up to SVHS for failsafe copies. But with the pro video community as a whole moving away from tape as an acquisition or even backup up format, the obsolescence of SVHS tape as well as problematic storage and archiving issues, non-tape back up just makes more sense these days.

If you are a long time Liquid user, you need to know that after several years of speculation and frustration, Avid has finally come out with the official news: Liquid is dead. There will be no new updates or versions, nor will their be a next generation product that will give the Liquid user base a natural migration path. While Pinnacle Studio will continue to grow and get better, it will not become the mythical Liquid on steroids many were led to believe. The simple reality is that the produ Read More

Last week, Adobe invited a variety of well-known people in the industry to come get a closer look at what they’ve been working on, and to provide feedback on their direction. To Adobe’s credit, this was no “preaching to the choir” session; many of those invited were FCP and Avid editors, and several current users gave Adobe personnel an earful both publicly and privately. It was also made clear to us that no specific product versions or release dates were being discussed, and that we couldn’t re Read More
