Many of you are probably laughing at this title, and to be honest I still don’t believe that I like editing with Final Cut Pro X. It looks like iMovie and the workflow is totally different. But I continued reading about it and watched some great tutorials from Chip Dizard over at Web Video Chefs (click here to see the webinar). It got me more curious and a few days later I am here. The 11th Annual San Francisco SuperMeet is now history and it was blast! The San Francisco/Bay Area crowd never fails to support the SuperMeet and each other. Thanks SF. Can’t wait for 2013. 500 people showed up to watch an array of excellent presentations on stage and mingle with each other and with the over 25 companies supporting the SuperMeet Digital Showcase. It is time to retire the “old” video editing computer that I built for Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 in early 2009. It isn’t that it wasn’t fast enough for my workflow but I got an offer I couldn’t refuse to sell it and have decided that the timing was right for me to build an even faster video editing computer for when Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is released. I expect Adobe will announce Premiere Pro CS6 and the entire Production Premium CS6 suite at NAB 2012 in April and will release the software in June Read More

Jeremiah switched from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 last summer, and three projects later, he's still happy. But when he wrote his original article, there was one thing he never considered - losing his existing plug-ins he used in FCP. Read More

With last year's introduction of the Thunderbolt interface, the mobile editing workstation really came into its own. Some observers speculated that the super-high-speed jack, which makes incredibly powerful peripherals truly portable, was a signal of the impending demise of the decidedly non-portable Mac Pro tower. This last week was very eye-opening for me in a few ways. It’s not that any of these ideas are new to me; it’s just that I’m looking at them from a different viewpoint. Sometimes, you just take “facts” for granted. Sometimes you have epiphanies but you don’t give them all that much credence. I’m looking at these things anew. I’m “just” realizing the implications of this information and how it will really apply to me in my future and my future career path. Read More

Apple imploding. Adobe ascending. Avid opening up. Who could have seen it coming? Here's Walter's look at what happens when the blinders come off.

Walter Biscardi has been part of Creative COW since before there was a COW, in its prior incarnation. He holds the record for most posts at CreativeCOW.net, coming up on 24,000 of them. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) has become a common method of data interchange between postproduction applications. Standard XML variations are like Romance languages: one version is as different from another as German is from French; thus, translation software is required. Apple's Final Cut Pro X was updated to include XML interchange, but this new version of XML (labeled FCP XML) is completely different from the XML format used in FCP 7. Stretching the language analogy, FCP 7's XML is as diff Read More
