Our Sandy Bridge concerns where not about the CPU, but rather the available chipsets Read More

The newest tool we have in our bag of tricks is the Matrox Convert DVI Plus. What I thought would be just another scan converter has become a swish army knife to our video needs. The ability to take a raw DVI source signal input and send it out – SDI, Component, and Composite is worth the money. No longer do we have to route the video through multiple pieces of equipment to get it our screens. Read More

The 4th of July means barbecues, family gathering and fun in the sun and the party concludes with the traditional pyro- show around the country. Everyone wants to capture the family fun, but when it comes to the Big Light Show in the Sky, shooting great firework footage is more than pointing the camera into the sky. The less light you have, the harder it is to focus or capture an image that isn’t underexposed or overly grainy. Throw in a fireworks scene that changes from dark to light within nan Read More

I didn’t always use Final Cut Pro, and I didn’t start using it from version 1. I was a late convert. I started out using Avid Media Composer. But I did start using it after version 3 came out. Before that I, and many other editors, begged and pleaded with the companies we worked with to use their Avids, after hours, to do our side projects. But then FCP came out, and was cheap, so we could then use it to do all of our side work. And I did use it for a lot of projects, but nothing for broad Read More

inal Cut Pro is important. It’s important in my life, perhaps in yours, and in many people I know. I get why people are freaking out. I do get it. Apple has made some serious mistakes here. But this isn’t a post about what’s missing out of FCP X, or what’s wrong with it, or why it’s useless to you. I think that the discussion over FCP X online and in the circles of people I talk to has gotten, well, ridiculous. Read More
