The MXO2Mini one of the most versatile pieces of hardware available with support for PC or Mac, desktop or laptop, and with or without Matrox MAX technology. The MXO2 Mini is also the only "Triple-A" rated I/O hardware on the market - which is our way of saying it is approved and recommended by Avid, Adobe and Apple for use with their professional editing applications.

2010 was one of those years that I think we will look back at as a key turning point in our industry. While HD camcorders have been around for 5 years, it was in 2010 that we hit the tipping point that made HD editing a reality for everyone. Many professional videographers migrated to HD years ago with an HDV camcorder that delivered great looking footage. The resolution was there, but the camcorders lacked the optics and focal controls, and flexibility, to make your video look like something sh

2010 will go down as a landmark year for helping level the playing field between studio and independent filmmakers. Like in ’09, 2010 was again dominated by HD DSLRs. Although the Canon 5D Mark II made its debut back in ’08, it still continues to transform the production industry in new exciting ways and is now the camera of choice for the majority of indie filmmakers. Even on the pro-level, HD DSLRs have gone on to shoot major TV spots, music videos, network shows and feature films with A-list

Three years ago, Ottis Jones knew nothing about video production when he started producing for The Old Fashion Gospel Hour in Hendersonville, TN. It was a TV ministry set up by a local church, and as most ministries are, it was run by volunteers. Over the years however, the ministry has grown so much that it gets broadcast in several communities in 3 states. It was no easy feat for Ottis to put together a studio that could produce broadcast quality HD footage, especially with no experience, but

Our original question was how best to accelerate Adobe’s Creative Suite. In After Effects, the move from CS4 to CS5 was a clear win, while scaling from four cores to six offered surprisingly little benefit. Photoshop CS5 is likewise mushy on its core scaling benefits, but if you can land a plug-in that supports CUDA, baby, hold on—the improvement is massive. Most of all, Premiere Pro performs exactly as we’d expect. The video editor scales well as threads increase, improves with Hyper-Threading,

I was messaged this today on the site from Phil Holland - thanks Phil!
He's done a great job explaining and demonstrating his rig, with a general overview of why one is useful.
I'm all for keeping this kind of equipment at a minimum for the job in hand. That's why Phil's video is good - because it's a nice practical rig and not too bulky or complex, plus it can be stripped down quickly and easily.
Rigs are something a DSLR really benefits from because they lack so many of the bells an

As Adobe updates the capabilities of its new Mercury Playback Engine, Premiere Pro editors are rethinking theirs.
At IBC, Adobe announced that the BBC was adding 2,000 seats of Premiere Pro software for its news-editing operations. According to Karl Soule, technical evangelist of dynamic media for Adobe, the demands of high-end broadcast outfits such as the Beeb partially steered the development of the CS5 suite itself, which was released in April.

Ten years ago there were few options for professional non-linear editing. Avid had the lion’s share with their Media Composer and Film Composer products, and for the slightly lower budget there was Avid MCXpress (distinct from Xpress DV), then the rest of the market was split across products from Media 100, Sony and a few others. All were expensive, complicated and difficult to get.

To faithfully translate Gilbert’s journey from page to screen, the filmmakers lobbied to shoot the movie entirely on location in chronological order. And after nine months of intense scouting and preproduction planning, Murphy led 40 cast and crew members — including Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson — on a four-and-a-half month rolling production effort that generated 422,000 feet of film, or roughly 70 hours of footage.

DSLRs have changed filmmaking for so many and when I say so many I mean an enormous amount. It’s insane just how many people are buying these cameras to shoot video on. It has taken everyone by surprise, including the manufacturers. Canon are of course at the top of the tree and the others are playing catch up. They have to, the market is just too damn big to ignore.
