Doug has been following the ‘NLE Wars’ with quite a bit of interest for some time now. Like many, folks who have been using FCP for years, including all of his own current work work, as well as a number of feature films in the past, He is very concerned about the end-of-life for FCP/FC Studio in the wake of the release of FCP X, and he's really, really, not motivated to switch to another platform. Switching costs time, switching costs money. Switching means that a video that could take a half a Read More

If you've been a fan or customer of Videoguys over the years, then you know that our go to recommendation for external video storage are the G-Tech G-RAIDs. G-RAIDs are stylish, external RAID devices that have unsurpassed reliability and performance. They attach to your Laptop or Workstation via eSata, USB2 or Firewire 800/400. G-RAIDs have been our top recommendation since they were first introduced and we awarded it Top New Product in 2004.

For the past number of years I have been working on a Mac Pro, with two 23" Apple Cinema Displays, running Legacy versions of FCP. I had added a Matrox MXO box, which went between my monitor card and my second ACD to provide Broadcast Monitoring so that I could view my video output. Hitting the Command F-12 keys would toggle the second monitor between a standard Mac Desktop and a Broadcast Monitor. This was extremely helpful in viewing and judging video output, as the Canvas window does not prov Read More

Last week Rich wrote about his decision to switch from FCP7 to a combination of Premiere Pro and Media Composer instead of FCP X. Since then, Adobe released Premiere Pro CS6 (along with all the other CS6 tools) and a number of people have published first looks or accounts of switching to the increasingly popular NLE. Here is an annotated roundup of the best of those articles, as well as, some resources on how to get started if you are unfamiliar with Premiere Pro. Read More

Philip learnt to edit tape to tape about 16 years ago at Sky News whist working as a News Cameraman. It made his camerawork SO much better. It was a great way to learn to edit. No “Apple Z”, you had to make hard decisions and stick with them. You also had to be FAST. Read More

Adobe recently announced the new CS6 versions of its production tools. 100 ACRE FILMS has been an all Adobe shop since it started, and we’re very excited about what’s included in the latest versions. They say don’t knock it before you try it. And sure enough, until recently, I have been fairly open to the idea of adopting Final Cut Pro X as my NLE of choice. But I have just delivered my first project cut exclusively on FCP X and must say it was a completely unpleasant experience. "Everything just changed in post", is the tagline for FCP X on Apple's website. It sure did: for the first time in 9 years as a professional editor I actually didn’t enjoy editing. Read More

Scott was fortunate to get his hands on an early release of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and an edit that came up last week seemed like the perfect place to test it out. It wasn’t an overly complex edit, a 3 minute piece shot on RED with interviews and b-roll. He cut the offline and it will then go to an After Effects artist for some fancy graphics and Baselight for color grading. As he was taking notes on the new version of Premiere Pro for an upcoming review he thought it might be interesting to jus Read More
