That update is small in number (more on that in a bit) but rather big in features as there’s quite a lot that Apple has stuck into this first update to FCPX. Chief among those things is XML support that introduces a new FCPX specific flavor of XML. Second would be Roles, a new way to tag and label clips that looks t Read More

Avid listens to their customers.
A few years ago Avid did something unprecedented in our industry that many editors may have forgotten about. They took their show on the road. It wasn't actually a road show as much as it was a chance for their top management to visit with post-houses, professional editors, indie film makers and user groups. They asked what Avid needed to fix and when they asked for honest feedback, they sure got it! What did Avid do with this information? They used Read More

Q: What are the latest trends you're seeing in production and post production?
A: The biggest trend in Post Production is the decision that many Apple Final Cut Pro editors are faced with, now that FCPX is available. We are spending a lot of time talking to our customers about the many options available to them. Adobe and Avid are both offering special "switcher" or "crossgrade" promotions with discounts at 50% or more. We've seen great interest from all levels of customer’s especially po Read More

Industry blogs and Twitter feeds have been exploding over the past two weeks, as pro editors vent their frustration over features — mostly having to do with import/export functions and other collaborative workflow issues — that have gone missing from Final Cut Pro X, even as Final Cut Pro 7 has been deleted from the Apple catalog. Apple promises that various fixes are in the works, but some users have threatened to switch NLEs entirely rather than wait out the chaos. That means an opportunity fo Read More
