Twenty-odd years later, a new generation of videographers may well pick up that mantra and apply it to the newly minted HDV standard, which does nothing less than democratize high definition. What is HDV? It’s a relatively new high-def standard that, for the moment, allows MPEG-2-encoded HD video to be recorded on standard DV media (DV or Mini-DV cassette tapes). The HDV format was defined by Canon, Sharp, Sony Electronics and JVC in September 2003. A coalition of manufacturers stands behind HDV (see sidebar), promising support for HDV image acquisition, processing, delivery and display. read more...
