With the maturing of DV-based video cameras and applications, and the coming requirements that TV stations broadcast in a digital format by the end of 2006, consumer electronics manufacturers Sony, JVC, Canon, and Sharp came up with a new standard that gives video editors the capability to acquire footage in a high definition format while at the same time, reducing the amount of money spent on such an acquisition device.
