Without the least bit of exaggeration, many people have said that this is the perfect storm of change and with this change there's an opportunity to thrive from it. That's where Adobe's been focusing - how to make our customers succeed in this storm of change.

This will be the first of a two part entry. Here, I will outline the challenges that broadcasters are facing and how Adobe can help address them. In the second part, I'll provide some feedback I've gotten from executives on their bu Read More

Avid just isn’t slowing down. I advised them that they just needed to slow down. But did they listen? Nope. Why slow down? Because just as soon as you get used to one version, another version comes along and has tons more features that you want. And when you JUST CONVINCE a company to upgrade to one version of Media Composer, you might be hard pressed to get them to do it again. Many large facilities don’t upgrade often, so when Avid keeps hitting us with new release after new release, we might Read More

Matrox definitely won the “surprise announcement” award from this year’s NAB with its Avid partnership. This gives Avid editors around the world the hardware that they have been desperately needing.

Matrox’s MXO2 Mini is definitely a device that will get some serious attention from Avid editors, but that’s not all that Matrox had up its sleeve. They also announced the ability to accelerate Mercury through its MAX line of products Read More

With the announcement of Adobe’s new version of their Creative Suite, CS5, they are delivering a new version of Premiere Pro. This review is based on a beta version of Premiere Pro CS5 but from my time spent working with the program it was much more stable that much of my Premiere Pro CS4 experience, and very fast. I think it’s safe to say that this beta version of the software that Adobe delivered to the press ahead of its April 12 launch was a nearly finished version, minus some documentation, Read More

I have been an Avid editor for at least 10 years now, but I always thought that they were catering to their higher-end users and news stations – not people like me. I couldn’t have been more wrong. It appears that Avid is listening to their user base, and it definitely shows in Media Composer version 5. First the big news – Avid now supports third-party hardware! I couldn’t believe it! Don’t get me wrong, I love working on an Adrenaline just like the next guy, but I definitely couldn’t affo Read More

Rather than tell you my favorite new features of Premiere Pro CS5 and the new video suite, I’d thought I’d blog about some comments I heard on the NAB show floor today.

Attendee on GPU acceleration in Premiere: “I recently bought a new computer that did not have a supported Mercury hardware card(NVIDIA CUDA) and I was relieved to see that Mercury running in 64 bit software mode was totally fast. I just spent a ton of money on an ATI card and it looks like it will work great with Mercury. Read More
