Now, once you hit play, there is no lag, no stuttering just crystal clear HD video playing in sync with your timeline. I really don't know what else I can say. The MXO2 mini was awesome, and the unit worked like a charm, and now with support for Adobe's CS5 , as well as Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro and Color), this unit is one that any editor working in HD that doesn't have a way to monitor their footage on an external source NEEDS to check out. I couldn't find one performance problem wit Read More

There is a great thread going on over at the Creative Cow about the Matrox MAX technology. Highly respected industry experts have all chimed in and the answer is clear. THEY LOVE THE MXO2 and the MAX encoding technology!!

What great thread. MAX is the secret ingredient that gives the Matrox MXO2 family of products a leg up on other excellent I/O devices such as the Kona. As was mentioned here, if you have a Kona card, keep on using it! You can add the CompressHD card to your Mac Pro and get Read More

An issue with DSLR cameras that you must consider while setting up your rig is audio quality. DSLR cameras are equipped with just the most basic microphone and the sound is just okay, at best. If your talent is more than 6 feet away from the camera your audio quality will diminish quickly. Fortunately, the Canon DSLR cameras are all equipped with a mini-jack microphone input and we recommend adding a stereo microphone like the Azden SMX-10. Read More

Today is the day when one of the bigger announcements from NAB 2010 hits the streets. Looks like the downloads are up: New purchases, upgrades and trial version. To call Avid Media Composer 5.0 a useful tools for editors is a bit of an understatement I suppose … kind of like calling a wrench and socket set merely useful for a mechanic. Read More

The Sonnet Technologies Qio answers one of the most significant questions posed by editors dealing with solid-state media: how do I copy the contents of the cards to my computer? And the Qio answers the question without any uncertainty.

Solid-state removable media primarily includes SxS, P2, CF and SDHC cards. Panasonic offers P2 solutions from a USB single-card reader to more sophisticated P2 editing gear. Sony markets a USB SxS reader and SxS cards can be read by the Express34 slot of Read More

CS5 is among Adobe's most significant upgrades to the Production Premium bundle ever.

As video editors, we have patiently waited (and waited and waited) for tools that are as quick as our clicks and keystrokes. But performance gains in past versions of Adobe's Creative Suite have been mostly incremental. After testing one of the very latest pre-release versions, we can say that CS5 is nothing less than revolutionary. Our wait is over. Read More

There are some great discussions going on at the Avid User Community Forums about the MXO2 Mini and the what if anyhting the MAX technology can do for Avid editors. I'm going to share some of that here with you.

Just to clarify: the max would work fine with MC5, just without H.264 acceleration?

Correct. If you purchase the Mini with Max, it will function exactly like a standard mini with MC5. The MAX technology just gets ignored Read More
