Steve Jobs was the greatest product innovator in the last couple of centuries, and his passing saddened me significantly. My appreciation goes back to his storied commencement address at Stanford University, which revealed him to be a deep and thoughtful man. I stand in awe of his incredible string of product successes, including the original Mac, iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, iTunes, and Apple App Store—not to mention Pixar—as well as his ability to produce maniacal, passionate fans. But that doesn Read More

Everything.” The rest of the description said we could be the first to see “new technology that connects effects and editing like never before.” Read More

If you’ve been following along the past few months, you know we’re testing a very nice Dell Workstation as we plan the immediate future of our company and what computers might replace all the Mac Pros we currently run. Since we’re an Adobe / Avid centric shop now, the Dell shows us how we might work in a cross platform world.

But as I have been using an almost 2 year old 27? iMac in both my Adobe and Avid testing for the past 6 months, the thought dawned on me, why not consider replacing s Read More

Over the years media pros have seen data protocols come and go. Some, like Fibre Channel, are still current fixtures, while others, such as SCSI, have bitten the dust. April 2012 update - now with FOUR recommended builds! Thanks to the release of the Intel i7 3820 Quad Core processor, we now have a DIY9 budget build! You can mix & match components between the three DIY9 P9X79 builds (Hot Rod vs Videoguys' Choice vs Budget). For those on a tight budget our DIY8 Sandy Bridge system based on the P8Z68 and i7 2600K processor is still fine choice, but I recommend finding the extra bucks to build our DIY9 budget machine, which comes in at just over $1500! For our Vi Read More

Like most Avid, editors I was waiting impatiently for the 6.0 release. Dreams of 64-bit architecture were spinning in my head: background rendering, super fast transcoding, more AMA features and a new title tool were my constant smile-inducing dreams. Then came the reality...which wasn’t bad either. Read More

Once a new editor has learned the basics of editing video, there are a handful of tools that they should learn as they advance their skills. Oftentimes simple to grasp tools get left behind in favor of more flashy effects and filters.
