Sony Vegas 6 offers flexibility, HDV editing

Gov't VideoGovernment Video by Chuck Gloman A different look for NLEs The Vegas+DVD Production Suite includes Vegas 6 (which allows HD editing), DVD Architect 3 (a top notch authoring program), and AC-3 Surround Encoder (the latest surround package). In this review I will focus just on Vegas 6, but the only way to get the other two programs is in this bundle. I installed Vegas 6 (version A, though C was the most recent at the time) in my Pentium 4 Sony Vaio with 2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and Windows XP Home Edition. (At this point, Vegas is still only available for the PC.) Dropping the CD into the drive, I had to install Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (included on the disc) and restart the computer, install Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 SP1 (included on the disc) and restart the computer, install another type of software I didn't think I needed (but the computer said I did) and restart the computer, and install Vegas 6 and restart the computer. After 15 minutes and four restarts, I had the Vegas icon on my desktop. I'm quite comfortable with Adobe Premiere, Avid Xpress DV, and Apple Final Cut Pro, but Vegas looks much different than any of these other NLE programs.
